Baseball (9-4) Splits Four Games
In its first game following a spring trip to Florida, the Trinity College baseball team lost against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Bowdoin College, 8-2, on March 29, but rebounded to defeat Worcester State College, 12-4, on the road on March 30. Trinity split a NESCAC doubleheader with regional power Amherst College on April 1, losing the first game, 8-0, before winning, 9-6.
Against Bowdoin, sophomore outfielder Alan Andreini (Greenwich, CT) and sophomore shortstop Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, CT) had three hits apiece. Sophomore Justin Olewnik (Pittsfield, MA) and freshman Craig Tredenick (Montreal, Quebec) combined for four innings of scoreless relief after spotting Bowdoin an 8-2 lead in the first four innings.
Freimuth and Andreini also powered the offense against Worcester, combining for six hits, three doubles, and five RBI. Sophomore first baseman Nick Callini (Westfield, MA) added two hits and two RBI, while senior lefthander Brian Powell (Holyoke, MA) went the distance allowing seven hits and striking out 10.
After being one-hit in the first game against Amherst, Trinity came back from a 6-5 deficit with four unanswered runs in the final four innings. Powell was 4 for 4 with three RBI and Freimuth had three hits, including one home run, and two RBI. Freimuith earned a spot on the NESCAC honor roll for his play in the four games.
Trinity has the fourth-best record in the NESCAC thus far at 3-2. Powell leads the league in hitting with a .556 batting average, while Freimuth is fifth at .460 and sophomore second baseman Greg Spanos (Auburn, MA) is 10th at .421.
Trinity is ranked among the top teams in New England and the nation. The Bantams are currently ranked No. 5 in the New England Coaches' Division III Poll and No. 16 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division III National Poll. This week's New England poll:

Softball (4-12) Wins Two Out of the League
The Trinity College softball team improved its record to 4-12 this season with non-league victories over Smith College (5-4) on March 28 and Division II Teikyo Post University (5-2) on March 30, but was swept in a doubleheader by NESCAC rival Amherst College, 4-0 and 5-2,
Against Teikyo Post, junior third baseman Brianna Stanton (Clive, IA) led the way with two hits and three RBI. Sophomore outfielder Lesley Santini (Winchester, MA) and senior catcher Caitlin Luz (Woburn, MA) each had a double, while sophomore righthander Heather Standring (Spencer, MA) collected her first win of the spring while scattering nine hits.
Against Amherst, Trinity managed only a single hit in the first game. Sophomore infielder Elizabeth Bontempo (Granby, MA) and freshman first baseman Maureen Heneghan (Windsor Locks, CT) both had two hits in the second game.
Men's Lacrosse (6-0) Continues Roll
The Trinity College men's lacrosse team continued its great start with NESCAC wins over Connecticut College, 9-7, on March 29 and Tufts, 15-8, on April 1.
Against Connecticut College, Trinity was led by senior attackman Alex Ullman (North Haven, CT) who scored the game winning goal with 12:40 remaining in the fourth quarter, finishing with two goals and one assist. Freshman attackman Ravi Pillay (Potomac, MD) had three goals and junior midfielder Mark Tassie (Hopewell, NJ) added two goals and three assists. Trinity senior tri-captain goalkeeper Matt Jerry (Acton, MA) made 12 saves.
Ullman again led the Bantams against Tufts scoring three goals and four assists, while senior tri-captain Bobby Souers (Montgomery Village, MD) added four goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Andy Hayes (Philadelphia, PA) and junior midfielder David Achterhof (Fairfax, VA) each added two goals. Jerry had 12 saves in goal. Ullman was named to the NESCAC honor roll for his performance in the two victories.
Trinity has the best record in the NESCAC thus far at 3-0. Jerry is third in the league in goalkeeping with a 7.94 goals against average, while Souers is fifth in scoring with 28 points (20 goals, 8 assists).

Women's Lacrosse (1-2) Loses at Tufts
The Trinity College women's lacrosse team lost its NESCAC opener, 8-4, to Tufts on April 1.
Sophomore attack Anna Sullivan (Woodstock, VT) and freshman attack Laura Davis (Bethesda, MD) each recorded a goal and an assist, while senior goalie Kate Derosier (Longmeadow, MA) notched 10 saves.

Men's Tennis (7-1) Posts Two Big Wins
The Trinity College men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester, 6-1, and Swarthmore College, 4-3, on April 1 and 2, respectively.
Senior captains Alex Valente (New York, NY), Jared Shiekh (Woodbury, CT), and Matt Sharnoff (Orange, CT) posted straight-set singles victories in both matches, as did junior No. 1 Rostyslav Orach (New York, NY). The doubles teams of Orach and Sharnoff and of Valente and Shiekh won two doubles matches each as well.
The Bantams, coached by Paul Assaiante, are currently ranked No. 8 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Outdoor Track & Field Hosts Invitational
The Trinity College outdoor track and field team began the spring season by hosting its annual Bantam Invitational on April 1.
Women's junior co-captain Amanda Rival (Berlin, CT) won two events, running a time of 15.14 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles and leaping a height of 5-feet, 4-inches in the high jump.
Fellow junior co-captain Marisa Eddy (Los Angeles, CA) won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.37 and sophomore Beth Landry (Brighton, MI) placed first in the triple jump for Trinity with a distance of 34-feet, 4-inches.
For the men's squad, freshman Ryan Bak (Suffield, CT) finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.30, while classmate David Wilson (Sharon, MA) placed second in the high jump at 6-feet, 4-inches.
Men's Rowing Takes California Cup
The Trinity College men's rowing team won the 12-team California Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1-2. The women's team finished 14th out of 20 teams in the Women's California Cup race.
The men's team, which featured senior co-captains Tim Godfrey (Gorham, ME) and Gregor Pagnini (Hopedale, MA) and sophomore coxswain George McLean (London, England), finished 3.8 seconds ahead of second-place California-San Diego with a time of 6:13.20 in the Grand Final.
The Trinity women's squad is currently rated No. 17 in the NCAA Division II/III Varsity Eight national poll.
