Men's Soccer (4-1) Prepares for #1 Williams

The Trinity College men's soccer squad went 1-1 last week, including a 2-0 win at Salve Regina and a 1-0 loss at Wesleyan. The Bantams, coached by Ed Mighten (10th season), host Williams College, the top-ranked Division III team in the nation on Saturday.

Forwards Brett MacQuarrie (Cohasset, MA), a junior, and Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, MA), a freshman, scored for Trinity against the Seahawks, while junior goalie Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, PA) collected 10 saves in the two games and his third shutout against Salve Regina.

Trinity moved into a tie for fifth-place in the NSCAA Division III New England Regional Poll this week:

Volleyball (6-5) Competes in 16-Team Tourney

The Trinity College volleyball team had a busy schedule last week, posting a 2-3 record in five matches. The Bantams, coached by Fran Vandermeer (fourth season), defeated St. Joseph College, 3-1, in their home opener, but lost three of four matches at the 16-team MIT Tournament. The Bantams lost tough matches against Springfield (3-1), Smith (3-2), and Wheaton (3-1), but topped Gordon, 3-1.

Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Hagan (Kentfield, CA) totaled a team-high 55 kills and 64 digs over the five games, while classmate Beth Landry (Brighton, MI) made 42 kills and 53 digs.

Women's Soccer (1-3) Wins First Game of the Fall

The Trinity women's soccer team, coached by Michael Smith (third season), posted their first win of the 1999 camoaign, 1-0 at Bates College Saturday, but dropped a 2-0 decision at Connecticut College earlier last week.

Junior midfielder Marisa Eddy (Los Angeles, CA) scored from sophomore midfielder Tisha Driscoll (Peabody, MA) for the Bantams. Sophomore Sarah Bradley (Mansfield, CT) stopped 15 Bobcat shots to earn her first shutout of the season.

Field Hockey (0-3) Loses at Bates

The Trinity College field hockey team, coached by Kara Tierney (first season), suffered a 3-0 loss at Bates College on Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Martin (Fort Myers, FL) made 15 saves for Trinity.

Women's Tennis (2-2) Bounces Back

The Trinity College women's tennis team, coached by Wendy Bartlett (16th season), evened its season record at 2-2 with a 6-0 win at Brandeis and an exciting 5-4 triumph at Wesleyan University last week.

Senior tri-captains Erica Johnson (Harvard, MA) and Caroline Hughes (Lowell, MA) each posted singles victories in both wins, and combined for a pair of doubles victories as well. Freshman Courtney Sargeant (Attleboro, MA) has won three singles matches in a row playing at the number-two position.

Men's X-Country Wins Dwyer Invitational

The Trinity College men's cross country team, coached by George Suitor (eighth season), won the Ray Dwyer Invitational hosted by Rhode Island College on Saturday.

Junior Todd Markelz (Homer, AK) finished first overall with a time of 26.07 to lead the Bantams. For the Trinity women, Caroline Leary (Bedford, MA) finished fourth with a time of 19:44, while the team came in fourth place.

Bantam freshman harrier Ryan Bak (Suffield, CT) finished third at 26.26, while freshman Ryan Lerner (Manchester, CT), senior co-captain David Kyle (Topsfield, MA) and freshman Robert Emord (Bridgewater, MA) came in sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively.

Junior captain Kara Barbalunga (Dalton, MA) placed 12th at 20.25, and rookie Kate Klein (Huntington, VT) came in 15th at 20.42 for the women.

 Golf Opens Season at Williams

The Trinity College golf team, coached by Bill Detrick (ninth season), placed 17th out of a 20-team field at the Williams College Invitational with a score of 679.

Sophomore David Magid (Orange, CT) and junior captain Keith Jendza (Feeding Hills, MA) finished 51st and 52nd, respectively, in a field of 103 golfers. Magid shot a 165, while Jendza followed right behind with a two-day score of 166.
