The Trinity women's basketball team recorded its first defeat of the season with a 65-61 loss to host Williams, 65-61, in the finals of the Winter Classic on Sunday, Jan. 9.
In the finals, junior guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, MA) led the Bantams in scoring with 18 points and Gretchen MacColl (Portland, OR) had a career-high 18 rebounds. Junior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, NJ) scored 11 points joining MacColl on the All-Tournament team.
In the semifinal game, senior forward MacColl scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bantams to a 74-51 win over Colby-Sawyer. Dullea totaled 12 points, while Siscone and senior co-captain guard Megan Shutte (Allentown, PA) added 11 points each. Senior co-captain forward Caitlin Luz (Woburn, MA) pulled down 11 rebounds.
MacColl was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) honor rolls after averaging 14.0 points and 14.5 rebounds with a 61.1 field goal percentage at the Williams Winter Classic.
Earlier, the Bantams had defeated Smith, 71-37, and St. Joseph (CT), 82-54, to end the fall semester.
Trinity, coached by Maureen Pine, is currently second in the NESCAC in field goal percentage at .427. MacColl leads the league with a .569 field goal percentage (41-72), is fourth in rebounding at 9.9 per game, and eighth in scoring at 13.1 points per game. Dullea is sixth in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Siscone is fifth in three-point field goal percentage at .362 (21-58) and eighth in assists at 3.0 per game, while Shutte is tied for sixth in assists with 3.3 per contest.
Trinity is currently rated among the top teams in New England according to two polls. The Bantams are fourth in the Columbus Multimedia TER Division III Northeast Ratings and sixth in the NEWBA Division III Poll. This week's polls:

Trinity Wrestling (5-1) Wins Three of Four at North-South Duals
Freshman 141-pounder Mark Foresi (West Springfield, MA) defeated all four of his opponents to lead the Trinity College wrestling team to three wins in four matches at the North-South Duals at Western New England on Jan. 8. Foresi is now 5-1 in dual matches and has notched one pin. Trinity defeated York, 33-12, Scranton, 25-15, and Lebanon Valley, 25-21, before dropping its final match, 22-19, against Ursinus.
In addition to Foresi's three wins, senior co-captain Steve Mulvihill (Melrose, MA) won two forfeits and pinned two opponents at 197 pounds, giving him an undefeated 6-0 record for the season. Junior Ted Govola (Rocky Hill, CT) won two of three at 165 and 174 pounds in his first competition of the season, junior Riad deFreitas (Silver Spring, MD) won two of three matches at 149 pounds, and senior Peter Marino (Winchester, MA) won two of three at heavyweight to give deFreitas and Marino each a 6-4 record overall.
Men's Basketball (6-1) Captures Naismith Crown
The men's basketball team went 4-0 over its last four games, including two victories at the Naismith Classic at Springfield College on Jan. 4 and 5. The Bantams defeated Eastern Nazarene, 83-53, and Albertus Magnus, 71-55, before downing Salve Regina, 108-81, and host Springfield, 73-69, at the Naismith.
Against Salve Regina, junior guard Scott Wallach (Scarsdale, NY) led all scorers with 20 points, followed by senior co-captain forward Rory Neal (Springfield, MA) with 17 points and freshman forward Ryan Uszenski (Metuchen, NJ) with a career-high 15 points. Wallach hit all four shots from three-point range and dished out six assists, while Neal made eight of nine field goal attempts and grabbed 10 boards. Uszenksi added six rebounds and shot six of seven from the field. Trinity set a new Naismith Classic record with 108 points in the victory.
In the finals against Springfield, Neal had 12 points and 12 rebounds to earn Tournament MVP honors. Sophomore guard Colin Tabb (Somers, CT) led Trinity in scoring with 17 points, pulled down six rebounds, and notched four assists to earn All-Tournament recognition.
Neal was the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 13, after averaging 15.0 points and 15.5 rebounds against Eastern Nazarene and Albertus Magnus, and sinking 67 percent of his field goal attempts (14-21). Neal, who grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds against Albertus, earned a spot on the NESCAC honor roll for his play in the Naismith Classic as well.
Trinity, coached by Stan Ogrodnik, is first in the NESCAC in field goal percentage at .497 and three-point percentage at .438. Neal is the league's most accurate shooter with a .671 field goal percentage (49-73), its top rebounder at 11.4 per game, and sixth in scoring at 16.2 points per game. Wallach leads the NESCAC in three-point field goal percentage at .565 (13-23) and is eighth in scoring at 14.6 points per game, while junior co-captain guard Michael LaBella (Middletown, CT) is fourth in three-point percentage at .483 (14-29).
Trinity is currently rated among the top teams in New England and the nation. The Bantams are ranked 24th in the Columbus Multimedia TER Division III National Ratings and fourth in the TER Division III Northeast Ratings. Trinity is also ranked 30th in the d3hoops.com National Poll.

Men's Ice Hockey (5-6) Drops Four of Last Five
The Trinity College men's ice hockey team has lost four of its last five games, including non-league losses to Elmira College and Rochester Tech, and ECAC/NESCAC defeats at Hamilton College and Skidmore College. The Bantams did manage an 8-2 victory over St. Michael's College in the consolation game of the Norwich University New Year's Eve Tournament. RIT had beaten Trinity, 3-2, in overtime in the semifinal game.
Sophomore forward Matt Greason (North Bridgton, ME) had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 home loss to Elmira on Dec. 10 to earn a spot on the NESCAC honor roll.
Several Bantams played well in a 1-1 showing at the Norwich tourney, including freshman forward Greg O'Leary (Reading, MA) who recorded two assists and was named the NESCAC's ECAC/CCM Rookie of the Week for Jan. 3. Sophomore goaltender Geoff Faulkner (Westerville, OH) and senior tri-captain forward Dan Lyons (West Haven, CT) both made the NESCAC honor roll. Faulkner made 70 saves in two games while Lyons posted two goals and two assists in the split.
Trinity dropped a 6-2 decision at Hamilton and a 6-3 game at Skidmore on Jan. 7 and 8. Junior forward Denis Petrov (Kemerokaya, Siberia) had a goal and an assist against Skidmore. The league losses drop the Bantams to seventh in the nine-team NESCAC at 3-3.
Trinity, coached by John Dunham, is currently third in the NESCAC in scoring offense with 3.91 goals per game, second in penalty minutes with 19.1 per game, and first in penalty killing with a 90.3 percentage. Lyons is tied for fifth in the league in scoring with 1.27 points per game (9 g, 5 a), and O'Leary is tied for sixth in scoring among NESCAC freshman with 0.67 points per game (2 g, 4 a).
Women's Ice Hockey (2-4-1) Ties Wesleyan
The Trinity College women's hockey team is winless in its last three games, but managed a 3-3 tie with ECAC and NESCAC rival Wesleyan on Dec. 11. The Bantams lost to Vermont, 5-1, and to Middlebury, 9-0, in league games on Jan. 8 and 9.
The Bantams, coached by Joe Snecinski, are tied with Sacred Heart and Wesleyan for 11th place in the 18-team ECAC at 2-4-1.
Freshman forward Katie Bowman (Summit, NJ) has two goals and an assist in the last three games, including the game-tying assist to freshman forward Lindsay Peet (Stowe, VT) against Wesleyan. Bowman is tied for ninth in scoring among ECAC freshman with 1.29 points per game (6g, 3a).
Women's Squash (2-0) Stays Perfect
The Trinity College women's squash team blanked Tufts University, 9-0, on Dec. 8. The Bantams, coached by Wendy Bartlett, have not lost a game in two matches.
Juniors Sarah Greenwood (Philadelphia, PA) and Jennifer Death (Locust Valley, NY) are among eight players with 2-0 dual records.
Men's Squash (2-0) Sweeps Tufts & MIT
The Trinity College men's squash team defeated Tufts University and MIT on the same day on Dec. 8. to open the season Thirteen different players won matches for the Bantams led by senior co-captain Preston Quick (Lakewood, CO) and seniors Loua Coetzee (Port Alfred, South Africa) and Luke Semple (Wilmington, DE). All three were among seven players to win two games in the double-header.
Trinity, coached by Paul Assaiante, is preparing to defend its national intercollegiate title while on a training trip to Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Men's (3-1) and Women's (2-3) Swimming Compete in Florida
The Trinity College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Amherst College in Fort Lauderdale, FL, on Jan. 6. Amherst won both meets by a score of 122-121. The Bantam women's squad also lost at Mount Holyoke College, 155-145, on Dec. 11. Sophomore diver Jessica Harmon (Selma, AL) posted a score of 210.7 to win the one-meter dive against Mount Holyoke.
