The Trinity College women's basketball team improved to 4-0 this week with victories against Coast Guard (65-47) and Simmons (71-37).
Agaisnt Coast Guard, sophmore guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, MA) lead the Bantams scoring with 21 points. Senior forward Caitlin Luz (Woburn, MA) had 10 points and 10 boards in the game.
In the rout of Simmons College, senior forward Gretchen MacColl (Portland, OR) had 20 points and nine boards, making nine of 10 field goal attempts, for the Bantams. Trinity also got a solid performance from Dullea, who had nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
The Bantams are second in the NESCAC in field goal percentage, sinking 42.3% of their shots from the field. MacColl is third in the league with a 55.9 percentage and freshman center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, MA) is fifth at 50.0%.
Neal Leads Men's Basketball (2-1) to Pair of Wins
The men's basketball team improved to 2-1 with victories over Western Connecticut State and Coast Guard last week.
Senior co-captain forward Rory Neal (Springfield, MA) scored a career-high 27 points in the victory over Western Connecticut, 73-68. Neal is currently ranked eighth in scoring (17.7 ppg), second in rebounding (10.3 rpg), and fifth in field goal percentage at 61.0% in the NESCAC. Junior guard Mike Keohane (Belmont, MA) added 13 points for the Bantams and classmate Scott Wallach (Scarsdale, CT) put in 11 from the other guard spot.
On Saturday Trinity got some second half heroics to push past Coast Guard 82-61. Junior guard Scott Wallach scored 24 points to lead the Bantam scoring. Wallach is fifth in the conference with a 19.0 ppg average and first in three-point percentage at 67.0%. Neal, Keohane and sophomore forward Colin Tabb (Somers, CT) joined Wallach in double figures in the game.
Men's Ice Hockey (4-2) Splits at Home
The Trinity College hockey team split two home games last week, suffering a stunning defeat to New England College, 4-2, in the home opener, and downing St. Anselm, 5-2, the next day. Trinity is tied with Williams College for fourth in the NESCAC at 3-1.
Senior defensman John O'Leary (Reading, MA) and senior co-captain forward Ryan Southard (Woburn, MA) scored for Trinity against New England on Friday, Dec. 3. Sophomore goalie Geoffrey Faulkner (Westerville, OH) made 16 saves in in 30 minutes for the Bantams.
On Saturday, Dec. 4, Trinity received two goals from senior forward Mikko Auvinen (Heinola, Finland) and a goal each from freshmen forwards Greg O'Leary (Belmont, MA), John's brother, and Andrew Haldor (River Edge, NJ), and junior forward Denis Petrov (Kemerokaya, Siberia). Faulkner made 26 saves in goal for Trinity.
Women's Ice Hockey (2-2) Wins One of Two in Maine
Last week the Trinity women's hockey team moved to 2-2, splitting road games at Bates College and Southern Maine. On Saturday, Dec. 4, the Bantams defeated Bates, 6-3, but were shut out, 10-0, at Southern Maine the following day. Trinity is now tied with Wesleyan and Williams for ninth in the 18-team ECAC.
Sophomore forward Eliza Nordeman (New York, NY) had a hat trick to lead all scorers in the Bates game, while senior co-captain forward Erin Sousa (Belmont, MA) and sophomore defense Kim Willis (Holyoke, MA) both scored once. Sophomore goaltender Eleanore Maletta (Greenwich, CT) had 27 saves in goal in the game.
Men's (3-0) and Women's (2-1) Swimming & Diving Sweep
On Saturday, Dec. 4, Trinity defeated Brandeis University and UMass- Dartmouth in both men's and women's swimming and diving.
Senior co-captain Ryan Young (Anchorage, AK) finished first overall in the 1,650 and the 500 yard freestyle. Young has already qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Championships in eight events.
For the women senior co-captain Carrie Rorer (Villanova, PA) and junior Cory Bernard (Seymour, CT) won three events each. Rorer and Bernard have both qualified for New Englands in six events.
Women's Squash (1-0) Beats St. Lawrence
Trinity blanked St. Lawrence University, 9-0, in its women's squash season opener at the Wesleyan University Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 4.
All nine starters won, 3-0, matches for Trinity, including freshman No. 1 Nicola Clark (Brighton, England) and senior co-captains Gail Davie (Cheshire, England), at No. 2, and Randy DePree (Lake Forest, IL), at No. 6.
Wrestling (2-0) Sweeps in First Dual Weekend
Trinity downed Western New England, 24-13, and Wesleyan University, 31-12, at Western New England in a quad-match that also included the Naval Academy Prep School. Teh Bantams posted a 33-12 exhibition win over NAPS as well.
Senior co-captains Steve Mulvihill (Melrose, MA) and Tim Barrett (West Stockbridge, MA) both won two matches. includng one pin each in the win over Wesleyan, at 197 lbs. and 184 lbs., respectively. Sophomore Noah Cox (Pittsburgh, PA) and freshman Lucas McKittrick (Lincolnville, ME) each won a match at both 165 lbs. and 174 lbs. for Trinity.
