Men's Basketball (0-1) Loses Season Opener

The Trinity College men's basketball team, ranked 16th in the d3Hoops.com preseason national poll, lost to Eastern Connecticut State University, 83-74, in its season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The Bantams trailed by only five at halftime, but four players fouled out in the second half and the Eastern Warriors pulled away in the final two minutes.

Junior guard Scott Wallach (Scarsdale, NY) led Trinity with 22 points, hitting three out of four three-pointers in the second half. Senior co-captain Rory Neal (Springfield, MA) chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Colin Tabb (Somers, CT) added 12 points in his Bantam debut after transferring from Quinnipiac College.

Trinity Women's Hockey (1-1) Splits

The Trinity College women's ice hockey team lost to visiting Amherst, 6-2, in its season opener on Friday, Nov., 19, but bounced back to crush the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 14-0, the next day.

Sophomore defense Kim Willis (Holyoke, MA) and freshman defense Katie Bowman (Summit, NJ) each scored for Trinity, while freshman forward Erin LeDell (Plymouth, MN) had two assists in the loss to Amherst. Sophomore Ellie Maletta (Greenwich, CT) made her debut in goal with 26 saves against the Jeffs.

Senior tri-captain forward Erin Sousa (Belmont, MA) and Bowman each recorded a hat trick and two assists and seven other Bantams scored in the rout against MIT.

Men's (1-0) and Women's Swimming (0-1) Split With Colby

The Trinity swimming program began its season against Colby as the men defeated the White Mules, 164-120, while the women lost, 126-168.

For the men, senior co-captains Ryan Young (Anchorage, AK) and Andrew Lovig (Bethany, CT) qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Championships in six and four events, respectively. Young placed second in the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, and the 200 breaststroke, while Lovig won the 100 freestyle and placed second in the 100 butterfly. In addition to Young and Lovig, the Bantams had six others qualify for New Englands.

Senior co-captain Carrie Rorer (Villanova, PA) and junior Cory Bernard (Seymore, CT) led the women, as both qualified for New Englands in six events. Rorer won the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke events, while Bernard won the 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly. Four other swimmers qualified for New Englands for the women.

Trinity Women's Basketball (2-0) Wins

The Trinity College women's basketball team won its only game, defeating the Falcons of Albertus Magnus, 69-55, on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Freshman center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, MA) came off the bench to score a team- and career-high 17 points and grab nine rebounds, making eight of 15 shots from the floor. Senior forward Gretchen MacColl (Portland, OR) scored 15 points with nine boards, junior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, NJ) scored 14 points, including four three-pointers, and senior guard Megan Shutte (Allentown, PA) added 12 points, five assists, and five steals.

Men's Hockey (3-1) Plays in Tourney Finals

The Trinity men's ice hockey team went 1-1 at the Connecticut College Tournament this past weekend (Nov. 27-28), beating the host Camels on Saturday, 6-2, and falling to Amherst, 3-2, in the finals on Sunday.

In the semifinal win against Connecticut College, senior forward Dan Lyons (West Haven, CT) scored two goals and two assists, while sophomore defenseman Martins Lans (Carnikava, Latvia), sophomore forward Brian Fenwick (Birmingham, MI), senior forward Wayne Sellers(Buffalo, NY), and freshman forward Craig Tredenick (Kirkland, Quebec) all scored one each for the Bantams.

Sellers and sophomore forward Matt Greason (North Bridgeton, ME) scored Trinity's two goals against Amherst, while rookie goaltender Evan Munno (Lake Grove, NY) collected 23 saves in the loss.
