Men's Soccer (3-0) Off to Best Start Since 1992

The Trinity College men's soccer squad opened the 1999 season with wins over the Coast Guard Academy, Albertus Magnus College, and Connecticut College. The Bantams, coached by Ed Mighten (10th season), defeated the Coast Guard Bears (2-0) for the first time since 1995, and avenged 1-0 defeats in the 1998 season opener and the 1998 ECAC Division III Metro Finals. After struggling to a 1-0 win over Albertus, Trinity scored twice in the final seven minutes to beat the Camels, 2-1, at home.

Trinity junior goalie Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, PA.) totaled 10 saves and two shutouts in the three games, making him second-leading keeper in the NESCAC. Freshman Phil Flakes (Dedham, MA), who has become a fixture in the defensive backfield, scored the Bantams' first goal of the season, and assisted senior Mike Wilson (Longmeadow, MA) on the gamewinner against the Camels. Wilson and Flakes are tied with junior midfielder Caley Iandorio (Wayland, MA) for the team scoring lead with three points each. Iandorio's goal, assisted by Wilson and junior midfielder Mickey Chambers (Bloomfield, CT), came late in the second half to beat Albertus.

With the wins, Trinity is the sixth-ranked team in the NSCAA Division III New England Regional Poll this week:

1. Williams 3-0

3. Keene State 4-0

4. Amherst 2-0

5. Wheaton 3-1

The Trinity College volleyball team is off to an excellent start to the 1999 season, including wins over Division II opponents Southern Connecticut State University and Stonehill College and the squad's first-ever win over NESCAC rival Williams College. The Bantams won two of three matches at the Williams Tournament and swept SCSU and Stonehill, but dropped a 3-1 decision at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Hagan (Kentfield, CA) totaled a team-high 48 kills and 55 digs over the six games to earn NESCAC Co-Player of the Week honors. Field Hockey (0-2) Looks for First Win Under Tierney

The Trinity College field hockey team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss at Clark University, and dropped a 2-0 decision against Amherst in their first two games. The Bantams, coached by Kara Tierney (1st season), received stellar play from sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Martin (Fort Myers, FL) with 35 saves in the two games. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Wilson (Concord, MA) scored the Bantam goal against the Cougars. Trinity is starting a new era under Tierney with the departure of new Bantam associate athletic director Robin Sheppard and 10 seniors lost to graduation from last year's Final Four squad.
