Thompson Earns Award as Trinity's Top Junior Female Scholar Athlete Trinity College

HARTFORD, Conn., June 14 -- Women's squash letterwinner Janine Thompson, Port, Elizabeth, South Africa) was presented the 1999-00 Board of Fellows Award as the top junior female scholar-athlete at Trinity College.

Thompson was presented the award by Trinity College President Evan Dobelle at a ceremony on May 1 at the President's house. She was also honored by President Dobelle and Director of Athletics Richard Hazelton at the College's annual Senior Banquet that evening.

Thompson earned First Team All-American honors this season for the Bantam women's squash team, compiling an 11-5 singles match record playing at No. 1. Thompson, who has earned All-American honors in each of her three seasons, has a 43-16 career record at Trinity.

In 1999-00, Thompson helped the team to a College-record 15-3 mark and a best-ever third-place finish at the Howe Cup Team Championships. She also captured the prestigious Constable Tournament title in midseason, handing Julia Beaver, of Penn, her first intercollegiate loss.
