| Trinity Women's Basketball Faces Pivotal Weekend |
Trinity, coached by Maureen Pine, is 16-4 and 4-1 in the NESCAC. Trinity is tied for first with Bates College and is ranked second in the NCAA Division III Northeast region. Pine goes for her 200th-career victory Friday against Colby, her alma mater. She is 199-100 in 12-plus seasons with the Bantams.
Trinity lost its last game, 77-70, at Hamilton College, but senior forward Gretchen MacColl (Portland, OR) totaled 18 points and 18 rebounds and became the sixth Bantam to reach the 1,000-point plateau in her career. MacColl has amassed 1,005 points and 609 rebounds despite missing 18 games last spring while studying abroad in Australia. An All-NESCAC forward as a sophomore, MacColl has won or shared the NESCAC Player of the Week award three of the last four weeks.
MacColl leads Trinity in scoring (16.3 ppg), rebounding (10.3 rpg), and field goal percentage (60.9). Sophomore guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, MA) is averaging 11.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per contest, while junior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, NJ) has scored 11.3 points and 3.0 assists per game. Siscone is a dangerous three-point shooter, sinking 50 out of 137 attempts this season, including a College-record nine in a 75-50 win over Middlebury College.
The trio of MacColl, Dullea, and Siscone, along with senior co-captains Caitlin Luz (Woburn, MA) and Megan Shutte (Allentown, PA) have started all 20 games this season. Luz is second on the team in rebounding at 7.2 per game and Shutte is the team assist leader with 3.6 per game. The Bantams are shooting 42.9 percent from the field as a team and have held their opponents to a 36.7 field goal percentage.
Freshman center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, MA) has emerged as a dominant inside force off the bench. McCloskey is scoring 7.1 ppg and pulling down 6.1 rpg while shooting 52.1 percent from the field. Sophomore reserves McKenzie Corby (Bethel, CT), Alison Hadden (Drexel Hill, PA), and Kate Toman (Mission Viejo, CA) have also provided quality minutes for the Bantams.
Colby, coached by Tricia O'Brien, is 13-7 and 3-2 in the NESCAC. The White Mules, who were swept last weekend at Williams and Middlebury, are led by junior forward Kim Condon (Presque Isle, ME) and freshman center Sarah Walsh (Salem, MA). Condon is averaging 18.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg, and Walsh has pulled down a team-high 8.6 rpg and scored 12.4 ppg.
Bowdoin, coached by Stefanie Pemper, is 10-9 and 2-3 in the league. The Polar Bears, who were also swept last weekend at Williams and Middlebury, are led by junior forward Lauren Myers (South Boston, MA) and freshman forward Kristi Royer (Lewiston, ME). Myers is averaging 10.6 ppg and 5.4 rpg, and Royer has pulled down a team-high 6.1 rpg and scored 8.8 ppg.
