Trinity Boasts Six on the National Field Hockey Academic Team Trinity College

Hartford, Conn., April 5 - Six Trinity College field hockey players were named to the 2000 National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve with a grade point average of at least 3.30. The Bantam field hockey squad, coached by Kara Tierney, posted a 1-13 record in 2000.

Junior forward Brooke Evans (Marston Mills, Mass.), sophomore defenders Jennifer Rieg (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Susan Hoppock (Chevy Chase, Md.), sophomore midfielder Laura Davis (Bethesda, Md.), freshman defender Meridan Daly (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and freshman goalkeeper Gwen Gillespie (Gates Mills, Ohio) were selected to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Evans played in 12 games, starting one, and recorded one assist, while Rieg started all 14 games with one defensive save and Hoppock started all 14 games with a team-high six defensive saves.

Daly played in nine games with one defensive save and Gillespie played in 11 games, including nine starts, at with 73 saves and a 2.55 GAA in 577 minutes.
