Hartford, Conn., July 6 – Trinity College junior Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) was named to the 2000-01 All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Baseball Second Team. Bantam senior co-captain right-hander Jarrett Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.) earned All-ECAC honorable mention honors.
Trinity, coached by Bill Decker, posted a best-ever 25-10 overall record and a 9-3 league mark, which was second-best in the conference’s East Division. The Bantams qualified for the first-ever NESCAC Championship Tournament.
Freimuth, who started all 35 games at shortstop for the Bantams, was Trinity’s leading hitter with a .387 batting average (team-high 53-for-137). He also had team-highs of seven home runs and 93 total bases (tied College record), as well as 36 runs (second on team), 15 doubles (second on team), and 39 RBI (second on team).
Freimuth is already the College’s all-time leader in doubles (41) and RBI (114), and second all-time in hits (155) and total bases (247). He was a first team All-NESCAC player and a second team NEIBA All-New England player in both 2000 and 2001, as well as a second team All-NESCAC selection in 1999.
Bayliss finished this season with a 6-4 record and two saves in 12 appearances (10 starts) with a team-high 72 strikeouts, 60 hits allowed, and a team-best 2.45 ERA in 73.3 innings pitched. He also led the Bantams with six complete games and tossed the team’s only two shutouts.
Bayliss finishes his Trinity career as the College’s all-time leader in wins (27-10 career record and 2.41 career ERA) and shutouts (6), second all-time in starts (36) and strikeouts (263), and fourth all-time in apperances (41), innings pitched (261.0), and winning percentage (.730).
Bayliss was a first team All-NESCAC pitcher this spring and in 1999, a second team All-NESCAC selection in 2000, NESCAC Pitcher of the Year in 1999, and NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 1998. He was a first team NEIBA All-New England player in 1999 and a second team NEIBA All-New England pick in 1998.
