Baseball

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity baseball junior Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.) was selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Trinity baseball squad, coached by Bill Decker (12th season, 241-130) finished with a best-ever 26-10 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division. The Bantams qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament and led Tufts in the final game, 4-2, in the fifth inning before it was called due to rain.

A NESCAC All-Academic selection for the Bantam football team in 2000 and the baseball team last spring, Dorr started all 36 games at third base for Trinity, and batted .339 (43-for-127) in 2002. He notched 30 runs, 11 doubles, eight home runs, 38 RBI, and 78 total bases. He is a graduate of the Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut and maintains a 3.35 GPA as an economics major at Trinity.

Softball

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity softball junior co-captain Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.) was selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Teammust be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Trinity softball squad had a 7-22 overall record and a 3-5 mark in the NESCAC East Division, failing to qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament.

Heath, a second team All-NESCAC selection in 2001 and 2002 and a NESCAC All-Academic selection in 2001, started all 29 games at shortstop after two years as Trinity’s starting centerfielder this season. She batted .341 (29-for-85) with team-highs of 13 runs, seven doubles, 13 RBI, and 19 stolen bases (in 19 attempts). A graduate of Windsor High School, Heath maintains a 3.76 GPA as a biology major at Trinity.

Women's Lacrosse

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity women’s lacrosse junior Laura Davis (Bethesda, Md.) was each selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Trinity women’s lacrosse squad, coached by Kara Tierney (3rd season, 19-23), had an 8-7 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the league, which qualified them for a first-ever NESCAC Championship Tournament appearance. The Bantams lost at Amherst, 11-6, in the first round.

Davis played in all 15 games (13 starts) at attack this season, tallying 12 goals and two assists for 14 points. She is a graduate of the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and maintains a 3.37 GPA as a political science major at Trinity.

Men's Lacrosse

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity men’s lacrosse junior Erik Mazmanian (Newton, Mass.) was selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Bantam men’s lacrosse squad, coached by Brian Silcott (1st season, 2-11), finished the year with a 2-11 overall record and a 2-7 league mark. Trinity finished in ninth place in the conference, and failed to qualify for a post-season bid.

A NESCAC All-Academic selection in 2001, Mazmanian played in all 13 games (12 starts) at midfielder this season. He dished out nine assists. A graduate of Newton North High School, Mazmanian maintains a 3.75 GPA at Trinity.

Tennis

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity men’s tennis sophomore Scott Levy (Waban, Mass.) and women’s tennis senior co-captain Rebekah Mate (Bellevue, Wash.) were each selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Bantam men’s tennis team, coached by Rob Hallagan (1st season, 12-4), finished the 2001-02 season with a 12-4 record. Trinity qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the fourth consecutive season, losing to Bowdoin in the opening round.

The Trinity women’s tennis squad, coached by Wendy Bartlett (18th season, 129-75-1), finished the 2001-02 season with a 12-4 mark. Trinity qualified for its third straight NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, advancing to the second round.

Levy posted an 11-5 dual record and a 12-7 mark overall this season playing at the No. 2 position. Levy, who owns a 25-16 career record in singles, also recorded a 7-7 doubles mark with two different partners in 2001-02. A graduate of the Noble & Greenough School High School, Levy maintains a 3.61 GPA as an economics major at Trinity.

Mate posted a 9-6 dual record and a 9-7 mark overall this season playing at the No. 2 position. Mate, who had a 37-30 career record in singles (3rd all-time), also recorded an 8-9 doubles mark in 2001-02. A graduate of Newport High School, Mate maintained a 3.63 GPA as a political science major at Trinity.

Outdoor Track and Field

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity men’s outdoor track and field junior tri-captain Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) and women’s outdoor track and field junior Kate Klein (Huntington, Vt.) were each selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Trinity men’s track and field team, coached by George Suitor (10th season) finished eighth in the NESCAC Championships, 14th in the New England Division III Championships and 33rd in the NCAA Division III National Championships this season. The women’s team, also coached by Suitor, finished 10th in the NESCAC Championships and 13th in the New England Division III Championships.

An All-American, All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), All-New England Division III, and All-NESCAC performer this spring, Bak earned All-American honors in both the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Nationals to end the outdoor campaign. Also, the NCAA Division III Indoor Track 1,500-meter champion this winter, Bak won the 1,500-meter title in the NESCAC Championships and the 800-meter title in the NCAA Division III New England Championships this spring. He holds Trinity records in the 800 meters (1:53.22), 1,000 meters (2:27.87), 1,500 meters (3:48.99), 3,000 meters (8:19.78), and 5,000 meters (14:35.37).

An All-American in indoor and outdoor track, in outdoor track last spring, and in cross country this fall, Bak was the NESCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2001. He was a NESCAC All-Academic selection for the fall seasons in 2000 and 2001 and the winter season of 2001-02, and was selected as the College’s Junior Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2001-02. Bak is a graduate of Suffield High School, and maintains a 3.63 GPA as an economics and political science major at Trinity.

Klein, an All-New England selection in the 4x800-meter relays this spring, was named as the College’s Junior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2001-02. Also an All-New England selection as a sophomore in the 4x400-meter relay, Klein posted top times of 2:21.87 in the 800 meters and 4:49.80 in the 1,500 meters this spring.

Klein was an NESCAC All-Academic selection for the fall seasons in 2000 and 2001 in cross country, the winter 2001-02 indoor track season, and the spring 2001 outdoor track season. She had the team’s best time in the 500-meter (1:26.91) and a personal-best time in the 800-meter run (2:21.51) during the 2001-02 indoor seasons, and also ran a personal best time of 19:10 in cross country this fall. A graduate of Mount Mansfield High School, Klein and maintains a 3.61 GPA as an engineering major at Trinity.

Rowing

Hartford, Conn., July 9 - Trinity men’s rowing junior Clyde Maxfield (Wayne, Pa.) and women’s rowing sophomore Kristiann Sawyer (Stony Brook, N.Y.) were each selected to the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Bantam men’s varsity eight team, coached by Steve Fluhr (13th season), finished the 2002 season with a 4-4 record and finished 13th in the New England Championships. The Bantam women’s varsity eight team, coached by Erica Schwab (fourth season), finished the 2002 season with a 7-6 record and finished 10th in the New England Championships.

Maxfield maintains a 3.67 G.P.A. as an economics major at Trinity, while Sawyer has a 3.69 G.P.A. as an English literature major at the College.
