Trinity Sports Captains Greene 
and Sterling Are Phi Beta Kappa

Hartford, Conn., May 28 - Senior men’s indoor and outdoor track and field tri-captain Stephen Greene (Sterling, Mass.) and senior men’s swimming and diving captain Christian Sterling (Glastonbury, Conn.) were each initiated into the Connecticut chapter of Phi Beta Kappa this weekend. Both have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and maintained a grade point average of at least 3.50 within his or her academic major.

Greene competed for the indoor and outdoor track and field squads for four straight years, posting career-best times in the 200-meter dash (25.14 s) and the 400-meter dash (5.02 s) this spring. He served as men’s indoor and outdoor captain as a junior and a senior. A graduate of Sterling High School, Greene maintained a 3.59 GPA at Trinity.

The Trinity men’s indoor track and field team, coached by George Suitor, finished 11th at the New England Division III Championships and 13th at the NCAA Division III National Championships this season. The men’s outdoor track and field team finished 14th at the New England Division III Championships and 33rd in the NCAA Division III National Championships under Suitor’s tutelage this season.

Sterling finished ninth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:09.94), 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:09.67), and 15th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.96) at the NESCAC Championships this season, and was named All-New England Honorable Mention for his time in the 1,650 freestyle. He had Trinity’s top times this season in five different events, and swam a leg of two different relay teams that posted team-best times. A NESCAC All-Academic selection for the winter seasons of 1999-00 and 2001-02 and an All-New England in 2000-01, Sterling maintained a 3.53 GPA as a history major at Trinity. He is a graduate of Glastonbury High School. The Trinity men’s swimming and diving team, coached by Kristen Noone (2nd season) finished with a 0-10 dual record and placed 10th at the NESCAC Championships this season.
