Women's Soccer (3-4-1, 1-3) Wins one of Two
After falling to New England Small College Athletic Conference rival Amherst College, 2-0, on September 26, the Trinity College women's soccer team bounced back to crush Salve Regina University, 7-1, on September 28, before suffering an 8-0 loss at league rival Williams College on September 30.
Against Salve Regina, freshman Lindsay Aquilina (Buffalo, NY) recorded a career-high three goals, while junior Kerry Hood (Londonberry, NH) scored twice. Junior Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) added a goal and freshman Kate Salottolo (Bethel, Conn.) scored her first career goal.
With junior starting goalkeeper Sarah Bradley (Mansfield, Conn.) out due to injury, sophomore Erin LeDell (Wayzata, Minn.) has stepped into a starting role, collecting 32 saves this week.
Trinity is currently in eighth place in the NESCAC at 1-3. Aquilina is tied for third in the league in scoring with seven goal and an assist, while Bradley is the fifth-leading goalkeeper with a 0.82 GAA. Aquilina was selected to the NESCAC honor roll for the second straight week thanks to her three-goal performance against Salve Regina.
The Bantams will visit league rival Bowdoin College, ranked No. 3 in New England, on Sunday, Oct. 8.
Men's Soccer (2-2-2, 1-2) Splits
The Trinity College men's soccer team defeated Salve Regina University, 3-1, on Wednesday, but fell to NESCAC rival Williams College, 3-0, on Saturday.
In the win at Salve Regina, sophomore forward Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal on a free kick with19:35 remaining in the second half. Sophomore Stuart Poole (Scarborough, Maine) and senior Caley Iandorio (Wayland, Mass.) each scored once for the Bantams.
Freshman goalie Michael Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) made his collegiate debut in gola with four saves against Salve Regina. In the loss to Williams, senior goalkeeper Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, Pa.) collected 11 saves.
Trinity is currently tied with Bates and Wesleyan for seventh place in the NESCAC at 1-2. Sandell is tied for seventh in the league in scoring with four goals.
Volleyball (7-9, 1-3) Salvages Week With Win Over WNEC
The Trinity College volleyball team lost at NESCAC rival Amherst College, 3-1, on September 26, and dropped matches against Wesleyan University, 3-0, and Smith College, 3-1, before blanking Western New England College ,3-0, in its three contests at the Wesleyan Invitational on September 29-30.
At Wesleyan, junior co-captain Kristin Hagan (San Francisco, Calif.) earned All-Tournament honors. Hagan finished the tournament with 37 digs, 24 kills, and one block.
Trinity is currently in ninth place in the NESCAC at 1-3.
Field Hockey (1-6, 0-3) Searches For Win
The Trinity College field hockey team continues to struggle, losing to Springfield College, 4-2, on Thursday, and NESCAC rival Williams College, 2-0, on Saturday.
In the loss to Springfield, senior forward Whitney Brown (Northfield, Ill.) and freshman Kristen Grabowski (Burlington, Conn.) each scored a goal for the Bantams. The goal was the first in Grabowski's collegiate career. Freshman goalkeeper Gwen Gillespie (Gates Mills, Ohio) totaled 16 saves in the two games.
The Bantams are currently in ninth-place in the NESCAC with an 0-3 record. Trinity will visit a pair of nationally-ranked NESCAC opponents week with dates at No. 5 Amherst College on Wednesday, Oct. 4 and No. 15 on Sunday, Oct. 8.
Golf Places Fifth in NESCAC
The Trinity College golf squad took fifth place at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Golf Championship at Middlebury College on September 30-October1. Trinity had a five-person total score of 672 to finish nine points behind fourth-place Hamilton.
Junior Matt Greason (North Bridgton, Maine) shot a 78 on the second day to finish with a two-day total of 165 to lead the Bantams. Greason is in his first season on the Trinity golf squad.
Women's Tennis (3-2) Fares Well at ITA Regionals
The Trinity College women's tennis team followed up a 5-1 triumph over Division I University of Hartford with a strong team showing at the Rolex ITA Regional Championships at Williams College on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Freshman Diana Goldman (Braintree, Mass.) advanced to the quarterfinal round of the singles tourney, posting two victories along the way. Goldman dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision against eventual champion Selma Kikic, of Williams. Goldman entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
Sophomore Courtney Sargeant (Attleboro, Mass.) also won a pair of matches, but, without the benefit of a first round bye, reached the third round.
In doubles, Goldman teamed with freshman Sarah Krueger (Burlington, Vt.) and Sargeant combined with junior co-captain Rebekah Mate (Bellevue, Wash.) in first round wins. Both duos were ousted in the second round.
