Women’s Squash (5-0) Dominates Amherst and Constable Tourney The Trinity College women’s squash team shut out Amherst, 9-0, on Jan. 23, before competing in the Betty Constable and Princeton Invitationals at Princeton University from Jan. 25 to Jan. 27.

Senior Amanda Todd (Essex, Conn.) and junior Suzanne Schwartz (Villanova, Pa.) each posted their first varsity matches of the season at Amherst.
Sophomore Amina Helal (Stamford, England) defeated freshman teammate Lynn Leong (Kota Bharu, Malaysia), 3-0, in the finals of the Constable Tournament. Seeded No. 1 in the 16-player tournament field, Helal won twice and Leong won three matches to reach the finals, which was the first ever Constable final round to feature two Trinity players. Leong upset No. 2 seed Runa Reta, 3-1, in the semi-finals to set up the final against her teammate.
Senior Amy Brown (West Hartford, Conn.) won four matches to win the 3.0 level tournament in the Princeton Invitational, defeating Todd, 3-1, in a semi-final match. Trinity sophomore Barbara Escobar (Stamford, Conn.) downed Todd, 3-0, in the third-place match after winning three times to advance to the semi-finals.
Trinity, coached by Wendy Bartlett, is ranked No. 2 in the National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association (NISRA) national poll. The Bantams will host Harvard, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation, on Feb. 2.

Tabb Honored for 1,000 Points as Men’s Basketball (12-3, 3-1) SweepsThe Trinity College men’s basketball team defeated New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rivals Tufts, 88-87, on Jan. 25, and Bates, 105-96, in overtime on Jan. 26.
Senior tri-captain forward Bryan Dion (East Haven, Conn.) scored the game-winning basket on a put-back against Tufts, which was ranked among the top nine teams in New England entering the game. Senior tri-captain swingman Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) led all scorers with 25 points, converting 17 out of 17 shots from the foul line, and dished out eight assists. Senior tri-captain guard Matt Jones (Meriden, Conn.) added 13 points, eight assists, and three steals, while junior forward Ryan Uszenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) tallied 12 points, five boards, and five steals, and freshman Darren Baker (Lakehurst, N.J.) had a career-high 13 points off the bench.
Baker stole the show in the Bates victory, scoring a career-high 18 points, including the game-tying three-pointer to force overtime from half court as time expired, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Tabb, who was honored prior to the game for scoring his 1,000th career point as a Bantam last week, had a team-high 26 points. He made all eight of his shots from the foul line and added four steals. Freshman guard John Halas (White Plains, N.Y.) notched 21 points off the pine, while Dion had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, Uszenski scored 12 points with five boards, and Jones dished out a career-high 14 assists for the Bantams.
Tabb earned a spot on the NESCAC honor roll for his performance in the two wins. Tabb averaged 25.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals against Bates and Tufts, while sinking all 25 of his free throws.
Trinity, coached by Stan Ogrodnik, is currently tied with Bowdoin and Williams for first place in the NESCAC at 3-1 in the league. Tabb leads the league in scoring with 24.9 ppg, is second in free throw shooting with an 86.4 percentage (102-118), tied for third in steals with 2.0 per game, seventh in rebounding with 7.5 per game, and eighth in both three-point shooting with a 38.3 percentage (41-107) and assists with 3.7 per game. Junior forward Corey Days (Baltimore, Md.) is tied for the league-lead with 2.6 blocked shots per contest, while Dion is second in the NESCAC rankings in rebounding with 9.4 per game, fifth in blocked shots with 1.0 per game, eighth in field goal shooting with a 52.8 percentage (95-180), and ninth in scoring at 16.7 ppg. As a team, Trinity is third in the league in field goal shooting at 46.6 percent (417-895) and free throw shooting at 69.8 percent (224-321).
Trinity received national recognition for the first time this season and is tied for 45th in the d3hoops.com national poll. The Bantams will host Clark, which is ranked No. 19 in the d3hoops.com national poll and No. 22 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III national poll, on Tue., Jan. 29, before visiting NESCAC rival Amherst, which is ranked No. 29 in the d3hoops.com poll, on Sat., Feb. 2.
McCloskey Collects Awards as Women’s Basketball (9-6, 1-1) Wins Three
The Trinity College women’s basketball team won at Westfield State, 68-52, on Jan. 22, before posting road victories in the NESCAC, 71-53 at Tufts on Jan. 25 and, 73-65, at Bates on Jan. 26.
Senior forward Kate Toman (Santa Margarita, Calif.) scored a game-high 22 points at Westfield State, making 10 out of 15 shots from the field, and added nine rebounds. Junior center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) notched 19 points and a game-high 14 boards, while senior co-captain guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) added 11 points, seven rebounds.
At Tufts, senior guard Alison Hadden (Drexel Hill, Pa.) scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the first half and McCloskey added 12 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks. Dullea, who along with Hadden played all 40 minutes, contributed 12 points, four assists and three steals for the Bantams.
McCloskey posted game-highs with 32 points and 11 rebounds at Bates, which was ranked No. 5 in New England entering the game, on 12-of-15 shooting from the floor and eight-of-eight marksmanship from the line. Dullea was the only other Trinity player in double figures with 13 points and recorded a game-high eight assists.
McCloskey was named as the NESCAC Player of the Week for the third time this season, as the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) Co-Player of the Week for the second time, and as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week. She averaged 21.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game in the three wins. McCloskey shot 60.5 percent from the field (26-430 and 78.6 percent from the line (11-14).
Trinity, coached by Maureen Pine, is currently tied with Williams for second place in the NESCAC at 3-1 in the league. McCloskey leads the league in scoring at 19.9 ppg, rebounding at 11.0 per game, and field goal shooting at 60.2 percent (124-206), and is tied for third in blocked shots with 1.1 per contest. Dullea is third in the league in assists with 5.3 per game, McCaffrey is sixth in the NESCAC in rebounding at 7.3 per game, and Hadden is seventh in assists with 3.3 per contest.
Trinity will visit host Western Connecticut on Jan. 29, Endicott on Jan. 31, and NESCAC rival Amherst on Feb. 2.
Men’s Ice Hockey (10-6-1, 8-4-1) Splits With Bowdoin and Colby
The Trinity College men’s ice hockey team lost, 2-1, against NESCAC rival Bowdoin on Jan. 25, but rebounded to upend league foe Colby, 6-4, the following afternoon.
Sophomore Thomas Pierandri (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored the Trinity goal against Bowdoin, which was ranked No. 6 in the nation entering the game, and senior goalie Geoff Faulkner (Westerville, Ohio) made 25 saves.
Sophomore forwards Steve LaBrie (Springfield, Mass.) and Pierandri each scored two goals to lead the way against Colby, which was ranked No. 11 in the nation entering the game. Senior co-captain Matt Greason (North Bridgton, Maine) notched a goal and an assist, junior forward Greg O’Leary (Reading, Mass.) recorded two assists, and Faulkner turned aside 26 shots in the victory.
Trinity, coached by John Dunham, is currently in sixth place in the NESCAC with an 8-4-1 league record. Faulkner is third in the league with a 1.92 GAA in net.
The Bantams will visit ECAC East rivals Massachusetts College on Fri., Feb. 1 and Skidmore on Sat., Feb. 2.
Women’s Ice Hockey (3-11, 2-9) Wins Big at New England College
The Trinity College women’s ice hockey team blanked New England College, 7-0, on the road on Jan. 25, but lost to NESCAC rival Wesleyan, 2-1, the next evening in Middletown.
Junior forward Katelyn Bowman (Summit, N.J.) recorded two goals and three assists, freshman forward Kristy Hadeka (Castleton, Vt.) had one goal and three assists, rookie defense Victoria Fox (Locust Valley, N.Y.) notched a goal and two assists, sophomore forward Sarah Shoukimas (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) scored a pair of goals, and freshman defense Libby Jakes (Roseville, Minn.) tallied a goal and an assist at New England College. Sophomore goalie Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) notched 18 saves and her first shutout of the season.
At Wesleyan, Fox poked in a loose puck to account for the Trinity goal and MacKinnon had 30 stops.
Trinity, coached by Katie Busniuk, is currently in eighth place in the NESCAC with a 2-10 league record. The Bantams will visit NESCAC rivals Amherst on Fri., Feb. 1 and Hamilton on Sat., Feb. 2.
Men’s Squash (8-0) Makes It 60 Straight
The Trinity College men’s squash team shut out Amherst and MIT, both 9-0, at Amherst on Jan. 23, blanked Pennsylvania, 9-0, on the road on Jan. 26, and won at Franklin and Marshall, 9-0, on Jan. 27 to bring its consecutive win streak to 60 matches.
Senior Nicholas Barquin (Bethesda, Md.) was not scored upon in a pair of 3-0 victories, the first of his collegiate career, against Amherst and MIT. Freshmen Vishual Kapoor (Mumrai, India) and Taylor Robinson (Concord, N.H.) also each notched their first and second career victories, while classmate Bernardo Samper (Bogota, Colombia) allowed just two points in his two 3-0 wins at the No. 1 position for the Bantams.
Freshman Regardt Schonborn (Bloemfontein, South Africa) allowed just three points to be scored against him at Pennsylvania, which was ranked No. 10 in the nation entering the match, and Franklin and Marshall, in the first victories of his collegiate career. Samper outplayed Penn’s top player and the No. 10 player in the nation, Richard Repetto, winning a 3-1 match.
Trinity, coached by Paul Assaiante, is ranked No. 1 in the National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association (NISRA) national poll. The Bantams will host Harvard, ranked No. 2 in the nation, on Feb. 2.

Wrestling (8-9) Romps New York Maritime
The Trinity College wrestling team lost, 29-13, at Roger Williams on Jan. 23, before dumping New York Maritime, 60-0, and losing, 25-17, against King’s Point at New York Maritime on Jan. 26.
Junior 157-pounder Eric Egolf (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshmen Dave Bucco (Paramus, N.J.) and Matt Webster (Foxboro, Mass.) posted wins for Trinity at Roger Williams, which was ranked No. 6 in New England entering the match.
Three Bantam wrestlers are currently ranked among the top six in their weight class. Junior Mark Foresi (West Springfield, Mass.) is No. 2 at 141 pounds, Connell is No. 5 at 165 pounds, and sophomore Michael Doros (East Hartford, Conn.) is No. 5 at 184 pounds.
Trinity will host Coast Guard, ranked No. 5 in New England, on Jan. 30, before traveling to No. 2-ranked Johnson and Wales for matches against the hosts, No. 4-ranked Plymouth State, and No. 1-ranked Springfield.

Swimming and Diving (M0-6, W1-6) Edged Out by Wheaton Women and Men
The Trinity College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each lost to Wheaton (Mass.) on Jan. 26.
Sophomores Julia Kaye (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) and Elizabeth Stoker (Westwood, Mass.) each won two events and swam a leg of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay squad against Wheaton. Kaye won the 200- (2:07.15) and 500-yard freestyles (5:24.97 was team season-best), and Stoker finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.91) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.80 was team season-best). Kaye, Stoker, senior tri-captain Kate Lafleur (Belchertown, Mass.), and sophomore Caroline Molitor (Berwyn, Pa.) won the 200-yard freestyle relay as well (1:48.56 was team season-best).
For the Trinity men, junior Jesse Hammond (New London, Conn.) won the 50- (22.79 was team season-best) and 100-yard freestyles (50.35 was team season-best), and classmate Chris Rorer (Villanova, Pa.) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.90) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.09 was team season-best).
Kaye has posted the Bantam women’s top time in four different events this season, while sophomore Elizabeth Stoker (Westwood, Mass.) and Jennifer Bartlett (Marblehead, Mass.) and Mortensen have each posted the team’s top time in three events. Kaye finished the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.56, the 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.97, the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:13.57, and the 400-yard individual medley in 5:00.70. Stoker posted times of 26.83 in the 50-yard freestyle, 29.80 in the 50-yard butterfly, and 1:05.35 in the 100-yard butterfly. Bartlett swam a times of 35.16 in the 50-yard breaststroke, 1:15.68 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and 2:46.53 in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Mortensen had times of 30.08 in the 50-yard backstroke, 1:05.18 in the 100-yard backstroke, and 2:26.07 in the 200-yard backstroke.
For the men’s team, Sterling has each posted the team-best time in six events and Rorer has posted team-best times in four events. Sterling swam a 1:53.10 in the 200-yard freestyle, a 5:10.83 in the 500-yard freestyle, a 10:24.76 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, a 58.69 in the 100-yard butterfly, a 2:07.97 in the 200-yard butterfly, and a 4:46.02 in the 400-yard individual medley. Rorer finished the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.88, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.90, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:23.59, and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.09.
Trinity will face Bowdoin and Colby at Wesleyan on Feb. 2.
Bak Breaks Record For Second Straight Week
and Qualifies for Track Nationals
The Trinity College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in the Terrier Classic at Boston University on Jan. 25 and 26.
Junior men’s tri-captain Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) finished 12th overall in the 5,000-meter run, setting a new College record and qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships in March. He finished the 5,000 meters in 14:35.37, breaking the previous mark of 14:40.97 held by Alex Magoun. Bak also ran a 4:14.94 in the 1,500 meters to finish 12th, while junior Josh Griffis (Templeton, Mass.) placed seventh in the shot put (47’05.25”) and senior Nick Fox (Dublin, N.H.) placed ninth in the weight throw (45’04.50”) for the Bantams.
For the women’s squad, senior tri-captain Lauren Young (Old Saybrook, Conn.) came in eighth place in the weight throw (38’05.00’ was career best), and freshman Christina Kane (Springfield, Mass.) was 14th in the 1,500 meter run (5:08.30).
