| Goldman Wins All-League and Rookie of the Year for Trinity Women's Tennis |
Hartford, Conn., May 1 - Trinity College freshman Diana Goldman (Braintree, Mass.) was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year and to the All-NESCAC Second Team.
The Bantams, coached by Wendy Bartlett, have a 9-4 record and finished third at the inaugural NESCAC Championship Tournament. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the Wingspan.com/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III East Region poll and No. 17 in the nation, qualified for its second straight NCAA Championship Tournament. They play at Williams on Saturday, May 12.
Goldman posted a 10-3 dual record this season, which tied for the team-lead, and a 16-6 overall record playing at the No. 1 singles position. She won two straight-set matches at the NESCAC Championships to advance to the semifinals of the No. 1 singles flight and earn second team all-league recognition.
Goldman also posted a 12-10 doubles record with various partners, including an 11-7 (7-5 in dual matches) mark with sophomore Karen Huebner (Burlington, Mass.). Goldman and Huebner advanced to the semifinals of the No. 3 doubles flight. Only doubles finalists earned All-NESCAC honors, however.
