Lewins Named Trinity Junior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Trinity College

Hartford, Conn., May 2 - Women’s squash letterwinner Samantha Lewins (Bromley, Zimbabwe) was named the recipient of the Trinity College 2000-01 Board of Fellows Award as the College’s top junior female scholar athlete.

Lewins was the No. 4 player for the 2000-01 Bantam women’s squash team, coached by Wendy Bartlett, posting a 10-7 record this season including an 8-3 dual match mark. She was a Women’s Intercollegiate Squash Association (WISA) Second Team All-American selection in 1999-00 and an Honorable Mention All-American this winter.

The 2000-01 Bantams posted an 11-1 overall record and had its first-ever undefeated dual match season at 9-0, while advancing to the WISA Howe Cup Team Championship Finals. Lewins had a 2-1 record in the Howe Cup, including a 3-2 victory in the No. 6 match in the Howe Cup Finals.

Lewins, who was also a NESCAC All-Academic selection the last two seasons and a WISA National Scholar Athlete this year, maintains a 3.7 grade-point average as a history and comparative development major.

A graduate of Chisipite Senior School, she is the daughter of Pam and Paul Lewins.
