Hartford, Conn., Apr. 30 - Three members of the Trinity College men’s and women’s tennis teams, which finished eighth and second, respectively, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships the past two weekends, were named to the 2001-02 All-NESCAC First and Second Teams. |

The Bantam men, coached by Rob Hallagan, finished the 2001-02 dual match regular season with a 12-3 record and are ranked No. 6 in the Northeast and No. 25 in the nation. The Trinity women, coached by Wendy Bartlett, finished their 2001-02 dual match regular season with an 11-3 mark and are ranked No. 4 in the Northeast and No. 14 in the nation. Both squads are expected to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in May.
Sophomore tri-captain Richard Lawrence (Toronto, Ontario) was named to the All-NESCAC Men’s Tennis Team as a singles player, after reaching the semi-final round of the No. 1 singles flight at the NESCAC Championships at Amherst. Classmate Diana Goldman (Milton, Mass.) was named to the All-NESCAC Women’s Tennis First Team as a singles player for reaching the finals of the No. 1 singles flight of the NESCAC Championships at Middlebury. Goldman and junior Karen Huebner (Burlington, Mass.) both made the All-NESCAC Second Team as a doubles tandem, after reaching the finals of the No. 3 doubles flight at the NESCAC Championships.
Lawrence, ranked as the No. 6 player in the Northeast and the No. 22 player in the nation, has a 13-2 dual record and a 15-4 mark overall this season playing at the No. 1 position. He has also posted a 10-5 dual mark and a 10-6 overall record in doubles playing alongside senior tri-captain Muammer Khan (Dhaka, Bangladesh). Lawrence/Khan is ranked as the No. 5 doubles duo in the Northeast and No. 21 in the nation. Lawrence, who owns a 37-7 career record, was a First Team All-NESCAC, All-New England, and All-American selection, as well as the NESCAC, New England, and National Rookie of the Year last season. He qualified for the NCAA Division III National Singles and Doubles Championships last year, losing in the first round in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles.
Goldman, also ranked as the No. 6 player in the Northeast and the No. 22 player in the nation, has a 7-5 dual record and a 15-8 mark overall this season playing at the No. 1 position. Goldman, who owns a 31-16 career record, was a Second Team All-NESCAC selection and the NESCAC Rookie of the Year last season. She qualified for the NCAA Division III National Singles Championships last year, losing in the first round.
Huebner has teamed with Goldman to record a 9-4 dual record and a 16-7 overall doubles mark this season playing at the No. 3 position. The tandem has a career mark of 28-16. Huebner also leads Trinity with a 10-2 dual record and a 14-5 overall record in singles, mostly at the No. 5 spot. Her career record in singles is 23-12.
