Rival Named Trinity Senior 
Female Athlete of the Year

Hartford, Conn., May 2 - Women’s indoor and outdoor track and field co-captain Amanda Rival (Berlin, Conn.) was named the recipient of the Trinity College 2000-01 Trinity Club of Hartford Award as the College’s top senior female athlete.

Rival is a four-time All-England pentathlete, a three-time All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) selection, and has won the New England Pentathlon Championship title the past two years for the indoor track squad. She posted a College-record score in the pentathlon of 3,310 this season, and posted the team’s season-best results in the shot put, long jump, high jump, 55-meter high hurdles, and 200-meter dash.

In outdoor track, Rival is a three-time All-New England selection, a two-time All-NESCAC selection, and an All-ECAC member in 1999. She won the New England Heptathlon Championship title in 1999 and 2000, and finished fifth to earn All-American honors in the heptathlon in 1999. She posted a College-record score in the heptathlon of 4,658 this season in a second-place finish at the Penn Relays, which qualified her for the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third time. Rival also recorded the team’s season-best results in the shot put, long jump, high jump, javelin, 100-meter hurdles, and 200-meter dash this spring.

The 2000-01 Trinity women’s indoor track and field team, coached by George Suitor, finished 12th out of 22 teams at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships. The 2001 Bantam women’s outdoor track and field squad, also coached by Suitor, finished sixth out of 11 teams at the NESCAC Championships this past weekend.
