Napier Named Trinity Junior 
Male Scholar Athlete of the Year

Hartford, Conn., May 2 - Men’s cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field captain Steven Napier (Blue Bell, Pa.) was named the recipient of the Trinity College 2000-01 Harron Award as the College’s top junior male scholar athlete.

Napier was one of the top seven harriers for the 2000 Trinity men’s cross country team, coached by George Suitor. He ran a season-high time of 27:45 at the New England Division III Championships. Trinity finished third at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships, fourth at the NCAA Division III New England regional Championships and 14th at the National Championships in its their first-ever appearance as a team.

Napier competes in the middle distance and distance events, as well as the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the Bantam men’s track teams. He posted season-high times of 2:47.63 in the 1,000-meter run and 10:59.30 in the steeplechase this year.

The 2000-01 Trinity men’s indoor track and field squad finished 12th out of 22 teams at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships. The 2001 Bantam men’s outdoor track and field squad finished sixth out of 11 teams at the NESCAC Championships this past weekend. Both track teams are also coached by Suitor.

Napier is a graduate of Wissahickon High School, where he was an all-league cross country and track athlete. He is the son of John and Jeanne Napier.
