Stanton Earns All-New England Honors for Trinity Softball Trinity College

HARTFORD, Conn., July 18-- Trinity College softball third baseman Brianna Stanton (Clive, IA) was selected to the 2000 National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England Region first team, the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches' Association (NEISCA) Division III All-New England second team and the New England Small College Athletic Conference All-NESCAC first team. Sophomore second baseman Elizabeth Bontempo (Granby, MA) and freshman outfielder Susan Kelly (Milford, MA) made the All-NESCAC second team.

The Bantams, coached by Fran Vandermeer (fourth season), posted a 10-19 record overall and 4-5 in the NESCAC this season.

Stanton started 28 games for the Bantams, leading the team in batting average at .429, hits with 33, RBI with15, doubles with 11, and triples with two. Stanton was first team All-NESCAC selection in 1998 before spending the majority of her sophomore season on the sideline with a back injury.

Bontempo played in all 29 games, starting 28, and led the Bantams with 20 runs scored. She also totaled 30 hits, five doubles, nine RBI, and six stolen bases and batted .330. Kelly played in 28 games, starting 27, totaling 11 runs, 23 hits, four doubles, two triples, one home run, and 13 RBI, and batted .315.
