Orach and Lawrence Collect NESCAC Awards for Trinity Men's Tennis Trinity College

Hartford, Conn., May 9 - Trinity College senior co-captain Rostyslav Orach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was selected as the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and to the All-NESCAC First Team. Bantam freshman Richard Lawrence (Toronto, Ontario) was named as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and also to the All-NESCAC First Team.

The Bantams, coached by Paul Assaiante, finished the regular season with a 13-4 record and finished second at the NESCAC Championship Tournament. Trinity, ranked No. 2 in the Wingspan.com/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III East Region poll and No. 11 in the nation, earned its third consecutive bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. They will play Bates at MIT on Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m.

Orach, a four-time All-American and a three-time All-NESCAC player, posted a 16-0 dual record this season and a 24-1 overall record playing at the No. 1 singles position. He won three straight-set matches at the NESCAC Championships to capture his second career No. 1 singles flight title. Orach is the all-time winningest player in College history with a 70-10 career mark.

Orach and Lawrence won three matches in straight sets at No. 1 doubles as well, to win the No. 1 doubles flight title. The duo posted a 9-1 dual record and a 24-2 overall mark this season.

Lawrence also won two matches to advance to the No. 2 singles flight final round. Lawrence was 14-1 in dual matches and 20-3 overall for the Bantams. Orach and Lawrence were selected as first team all-league players in both singles and doubles.
