Bantams to Play Bowdoin in First Round Saturday Hartford, Conn., May 8 -- The Trinity College men’s tennis team, which finished the 2001-02 dual match regular season with a 12-3 record, has qualified for its fourth consecutive NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship Tournament. The Bantams, coached by Rob Hallagan (1st season), will play Bowdoin at Middlebury on Sat., May 11 at 9:30 a.m. The winner will face Bates/Middlebury victor on Sun., May 11 for the opportunity to advance to the quarter-final round. The final three rounds will take place at Sweet Briar College in Virginia on May 17-22. |

Trinity, which is ranked No. 6 in the Northeast region and No. 25 in the nation, most recently finished eighth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships. Bowdoin is ranked No. 2 in the Northeast and No. 8 in the nation, while Middlebury is ranked No. 4 in both the Northeast and No. 14 nation, and Bates is No. 8 in the region.
Sophomore tri-captain Richard Lawrence (Toronto, Ontario) has been the team’s No. 1 player all season, and is ranked as the region’s No. 6 singles player and No. 22 in the nation. Lawrence, an All-American and National Rookie of the Year last season, was named to the All-NESCAC Team in singles this spring.
Sophomore Scott Levy (Waban, Mass.), senior tri-captain Muammer Khan (Dhaka, Bangladesh), and sophomore Csaba Godry (Budapest, Hungary) round out the top four singles players for the Bantams. Lawrence and Khan also combine to make up the Bantams’ No. 1 doubles team.
Trinity did not play Bowdoin or Middlebury this season, but edged Bates, 4-3, on April 14. Bowdoin junior Colin Joyner (Great Falls, Mont.) is the No. 4 player in the Northeast and No. 26 in the nation.
