Hartford, Conn., May 1 - Men’s basketball tri-captain Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) was named the recipient of the Trinity College 2001-02 George Sheldon McCook Trophy as the College’s top senior male athlete.

Tabb, a three-year varsity letterwinner in basketball after transferring to Trinity from Division I Quinnipiac University, started all 25 games at guard. He led the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in scoring (24.8 ppg) and finished among the league leaders in several categories. He was fourth in the league in assists with 4.2 per game, and seventh in rebounding at 7.4 per game. Tabb was also the top free throw shooter in the NESCAC, and among the best in the nation, with an 86.8 percentage (171-197) from the charity stripe.

Tabb was named as the ECAC Division III New England Player of the Year and to its All-Star First Team, the d3hoops.com All-Northeast Region First Team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Pontiac All-American First Team, the DIII News All-American Second Team, and the d3hoops.com All-American Fourth Team. One of 10 finalists for the Josten’s Award as the top men’s basketball player in all of NCAA Division III, Tabb finished his career as the fourth highest scorer in Bantam men’s hoop lore with 1,375 points despite playing just three seasons.

An All-NESCAC First Team, All-ECAC Division III New England First Team, and an NABC All-Northeast Region Second Team selection in 2000-01, Tabb was named as the NESCAC Player of the Week twice this season. He was also selected to the all-tournament squad at the Rutgers-Newark Tip-Off Tournament. Majoring in political science at Trinity, Tabb is a graduate of Somers High School.

The Trinity men, coached by Stan Ogrodnik, posted a 19-6 overall record and an 8-1 record in the NESCAC to finish atop the league for the second straight season. The Bantams lost to Amherst in the NESCAC Championship finals, 85-78, but still qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the fourth time. Trinity advanced to the second round with a 75-47 win over Colby-Sawyer, but lost, 80-61, at Brockport State in the second round.
