Church Earns Academic Award         for Trinity Field Hockey Trinity College

HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 15- Trinity College senior goalkeeper Melissa Church (Wayland, MA) has been selected to the 1999 National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFJCA) Division III National Academic Squad. The Bantams, coached by Kara Tierney, posted a 4-10 record in 1999.

A student-athlete must possess a minimum grade point average of 3.30, be a starter or a key reserve, and be at least a sophomore to be selected to the squad.

Church played in three games in 1999 as the backup goalkeeper. In her four-year career, Church played in 15 games, starting eight. She allowed six goals and made 34 saves with three shutouts. Church holds the College career record for goals against average at 0.70. Trinity compiled a 42-19 record (.689) with three NCAA Division III Championship Tournament bids and one NCAA Division III Final Four appearance during her career.
