POSTSEASON HONORS

Trinity College

 

Hartford, CT, June 4, 1999- Several Trinity College athletes have been recognized for their outstanding seasons this spring with post-season accolades. They include:

Baseball

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jarrett Bayliss (Williamstown, MA) was named to the 1999 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Star First Team and was selected as the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year. Bayliss had a 9-3 record in 12 appearances with 81 strikeouts in 82 innings pitched and a 1.98 earned run average while leading the team to their second straight NCAA Tournament.

Bayliss was also named to the 1999 American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) All-New England Division III First Team for his outstanding season. Last season, Bayliss was a Second Team All-New England and a Second Team NESCAC All-Star selection.

Senior outfielder Kirk Chisholm (Winchester, MA), junior third baseman Jayson Barbarotta (Trumbull, CT), and freshman shortstop Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, CT) were selected to the NESCAC All-Star Second Team. Chisholm batted .357 with 11 doubles, six homers, and 24 RBI, and set a new Trinity all-time home run record with 19 in his career. Barbarotta batted a team-high .402 with 24 RBI and 31 runs scored, while Freimuth started all 36 games with a .382 batting average, 12 doubles, and a team-high 42 RBI.

Softball

Juniors Beth Mooradian (Hopedale, MA) and Caitlin Luz (Woburn, MA), and sophomore Tricia Mase (Northford, CT) were named to the 1999 NESCAC All-Star Second Team. Mooradian, a right-handed pitcher making her second All-NESCAC appearance, had a deceiving 12-18 record in 187.1 innings and a 1.87 ERA. Luz, who did not play in her first two years at Trinity, batted .330 with seven doubles and 23 RBI in 33 games as the Bantams' catcher. Mase led the squad with a .347 batting average, belted six doubles, and stole 12 bases as the Trinity starting shortstop.

Women's Lacrosse

Senior attack Nancy Dwyer (Bedford, NY) was named to the 1999 Brine/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) Division III All-American First Team, the IWLCA All-New England Division III First Team, and the NESCAC All-Star First Team. Dwyer led the Bantams in scoring with 65 points on a team-high 48 goals and 17 assists. She finished her career with 107 goals, 32 assists, and 139 points.

Senior midfielder Alix Johnston (Mount Kisco, NY) was named to the IWLCA Second Team and the IWLCA All-New England First Team, and will represent the Bantams in the Division III North/South All-Star Game on June 12 as part of the STX Lacrosse Festival at Johns Hopkins University. Johnston, a co-captain, totaled 45 points on 30 goals and 15 assists. She finished her career with 100 goals, 39 assists, and 139 points.

Senior attack Whitney Scarlett (Morristown, NJ) and junior goalkeeper Kate Derosier (Longmeadow, MA) were named to the IWLCA All-New England Division III First Team, while Derosier and junior midfielder Jess Martin (Alexandra, VA) graced the NESCAC All-Star First Team. Scarlett, a co-captain, totaled 54 points on 39 goals and 15 assists this spring. She has amassed 104 goals and 56 assists, which tied her for the all-time Trinity record, for 160 points in her career. Scarlett is an alternate for the Division III North/South All-Star Game. Derosier started all 15 games with 186 saves for a .574 percentage and a 9.78 Goals Against Average. She is already the Trinity all-time save leader with 551 in three seasons. Martin had five goals and two assists this season while alternating between defense and the midfield.

Men's Lacrosse

Senior defender Will Stengel (New Canaan, CT) and sophomore attack Mark Tassie (Hopewell, NJ) were both named to the 1999 All-Snively League Second Team. Stengel, the team's only captain, started all 13 games for the Bantams. He scored two goals and two assists in his career from the long stick position. Tassie tied for the Bantam scoring lead with 46 points on a team-high 36 points and 10 assists. He has totaled 58 goals and 22 assists for 80 points in just two seasons.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Jerry (Acton, MA) earned All-Snively Honorable Mention honors. Jerry started all 13 games in net with 184 saves for a .543 percentage and a 12.11 Goals Against Average.
