Men's Basketball

Hartford, Conn., Mar. 23 - Trinity College junior Matt Jones (Meriden, Conn.) was named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35. The Bantam men’s basketball squad, coached by Stan Ogrodnik, posted an 18-6 record and advanced to the NESCAC Championship Finals in 2000-01.

Jones played in 23 out of 24 games as a reserve point guard, averaging 1.3 ppg, 2.1 rebounds per game, and 1.6 assists per game. Jones played an increasingly important role as a defensive stopper and a solid ballhandler as the season progressed. He shot 36.8 percent from three-point range (7-19) and had a career-high 12 points, all in the second half, with four three-pointers in a win over Wesleyan.

Women's Basketball

Hartford, Conn., Mar. 23 - Trinity College senior captain Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, N.J.) was named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35. The Bantam women’s basketball squad, coached by Maureen Pine, posted a 7-15 record in 2000-01.

Siscone was the only player to start all 24 games for the Bantams and led the team in assists with 4.9 per game, three-point shooting at 35.0 percent (55-157), and free throw shooting at 79.4 (27-34). She was also third on the team in scoring with 9.6 ppg, and averaged 2.9 rebounds per contest.

Siscone, who transferred to Trinity from Colgate last season, was also a NESCAC All-Academic selection as a junior. She set a College record for three-pointers in a game with nine in a win over Middlebury in 1999-00.

Men's Ice Hockey

Hartford, Conn., Mar. 23 - Trinity College senior Denis Petrov (Novokuznetsk, Russia) was named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.

The Bantam men’s ice hockey squad, coached by John Dunham, posted a 15-7-2 record and played in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championship in 2000-01.

Petrov, the assistant captain, was also a NESCAC All-Academic selection last season. He played in all 24 games at forward and finished second on the team in assists with 15 and total points with 24. Petrov scored nine goals this winter, including the game-winner in a 3-2 win over four-time NCAA Division III champion and previously-undefeated Middlebury.

Women's Ice Hockey

Hartford, Conn., Mar. 23 - Trinity College junior Eleanore Maletta (Greenwich, Conn.) was named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.

The Bantam women’s ice hockey squad, coached by Joe Snecinski, posted a 1-19-3 in 2000-01. Maletta played in 19 out of 23 games at forward, recording one assist.

Women's Squash

Hartford, Conn., Apr. 4- Trinity College junior Samantha Lewins (Bromley, Zimbabwe) was named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.

The Bantam women’s squash squad, coached by Wendy Bartlett, posted an 11-1 overall record and had its first-ever undefeated dual match season at 9-0, while advancing to their first Women’s Intercollegiate Squash Association (WISA) Howe Cup Team Championship Finals.

Lewins, who was also a NESCAC All-Academic selection in 1999-00, posted a 10-7 record this season including an 8-3 dual match mark. She had a 2-1 record in the Howe Cup, including a 3-2 victory in the No. 6 match in the Howe Cup Finals.

Men's Squash

Hartford, Conn., Mar. 23 - Trinity College junior Gaurav Juneja (Bombay, India) was named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.

The Bantam men’s squash squad, coached by Paul Assaiante, posted a third consecutive undefeated dual match season at 17-0 and won its third straight National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association (NISRA) Team Championship in 2000-01.

Juneja posted a 14-3 record this season, including an 11-1 dual match mark and a 2-0 record in the NISRA Team Championship Tournament. Juneja won three out of five matches at the NISRA Singles Championships and advanced to the Consolation finals.

Swimming and Diving

Hartford, Conn., Mar. 23 - Four Trinity swimmers and divers were named to the 2000-01 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.

The Bantam men’s swimming and diving squad posted a 3-6 record in dual meets and finished 10th at the NESCAC Championships, while the women’s squad posted a 2-7 dual mark and finished 11th at the NESCAC Championships. Both teams were coached by Kristen Noone.

Senior tri-captain Chris Nicholas (Seekonk, Mass.) posted the team’s top time in the 100- (58.46) and 200-yard backstrokes (2:08.99), and the 100-yard individual medley (57.27).

Senior diver Bradford Albus (New Canaan, Conn.) was the team’s only regular diver and recorded a College-record score of 298.25 in the three-meter event, which qualified him provisionally for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Albus also had a team and personal best score of 262.50 in the one-meter dive.

Junior Katie Lafleur (Belchertown, Mass.) posted the women’s team’s second-best time in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:06.57 and sophomore Laura Centofanti (Hanson, Mass.) swam the team’s second-best time in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:43.68.
