| Trinity Student Athletes Earn NESCAC All-Academic Honors |
Senior co-captain Megan Shutte (Allentown, PA), and junior Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, NJ) were selected from the Bantam women's basketball team.
Shutte was a starter at guard and for Head Coach Maureen Pine. In 1999-00, Shutte averaged 4.4 points per game, helping the team capture its first ECAC Division III New England Championship title. Earlier, Shutte was named to the NESCAC All-Defensive Team and as Trinity's Co-Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Siscone, who was also a starter at guard, averaged 10.8 points per game for the Bantams.
Senior tri-captains Amanda Lydon (Hampton Falls, NH) and Erin Sousa (Belmont, MA), senior Mikko Auvinen (Heinola, Finland), and junior Denis Petrov (Novokwznecky, Russia) were selected from the Trinity women's and men's ice hockey squads.
Lydon and Sousa were both starters at forward for Head Coach Joe Snecinski. Lydon had five goals and four assists, and Sousa scored five goals and five assists for the Bantams in 1999-00. Auvinen and Petrov were both key players at forward for Head Coach John Dunham. Auvinen scored seven goals and 10 assists, while Petrov totaled seven goals and 11 assists for Trinity in 1999-00. Auvinen was selected as the College's Senior Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Juniors Akhil Behl (Bombay, India) and Janine Thompson (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) and sophomore Samantha Lewins (Bromley, Zimbabwe) were selected from the Trinity men's and women's squash teams. Behl posted a perfect 12-0 record and earned first team All-American honors for Head Coach Paul Assaiante. Behl was also selected as an National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association Scholar Athlete of the Year. Thompson posted an 11-5 record playing at the No. 1 position and earned first team All-American honors for Head Coach Wendy Bartlett. Thompson was also named the College's Junior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Lewins had a 15-6 record and earned honorable mention All-American honors this season.
Senior co-captains Carrie Rorer (Villanova, PA), Emily Polito (Joliet, IL), and Ryan Young (Anchorage, AK) and sophomore Christian Sterling (Glastonbury, CT) were selected from the Bantams men's and women's swimming teams. Rorer finished in the top eight in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events at the NCAA Division III New England Championships this season for Head Coach Amy Williams. Rorer earned All-New England honors in the 200-, 500-, and 1,650-yard freestyles in 1999-00. Rorer, who also earned NESCAC All-Academic in the spring season as a member of the Trinity women's rowing squad, was selected as the College's Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Young was an All-New England swimmer Coach Williams in the 500-yard freestyle, while Sterling was a top swimmer for the Bantams in the freestyle and the butterfly.
Senior Todd Brodeur (Auburn, MA), was selected from the Trinity baseball team, while junior Tricia Mase (Northford, CT) and sophomore Clare Bullock (Columbia, SC) were selected from the Bantam softball squad.
Brodeur was a starter in the outfield for Head Coach Bill Decker, batting .301 with two homers and 24 RBI. Mase started at shortstop for Head Coach Fran Vandermeer with a .260 batting average, four doubles, and 10 stolen bases, while Bullock totaled 12 hits and five RBI as a valuable utility player in 1999-00.
Senior Bill Moyer (Brookline, MA), was selected from the Trinity men's lacrosse team, while senior Kristin Arnold (Longmeadow, MA) and junior Melissa Marlette (Buffalo, NY) were selected from the Bantam women's lacrosse squad.
Moyer was a starter on defense for Head Coach Mike Darr, recording one assist and picking up 25 ground balls. Arnold started on defense for Head Coach Kara Tierney and had 22 ground balls, while Marlette totaled three goals and four assists as an attacker in 1999-00.
Senior co-captain Ben Goss (York, ME), junior co-captain Todd Markelz (Homer, AK), senior David Kyle (Topsfield, MA), and sophomore Kerry Hood (Londonderry, NH) were all selected from the Trinity men's and women's track and field teams.
Goss was the New England Division III decathlon champion for Head Coach George Suitor, while Markelz was an All-NESCAC distance runner, and Kyle was an All-New England distance runner. Markelz, who was selected as the College's Junior Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, and Kyle were both NESCAC All-Academic honorees this fall for the Trinity men's cross country squad. Hood, who also made the NESCAC All-Academic team this as a member of the Bantam women's soccer team, was a top runner for the Trinity track team and earned All-New England during the indoor season in the distance relay.
Senior captains Alex Valente (New York, NY) and Steve Wohlford (Glen Carbon, IL) were selected from the Trinity men's tennis team, while senior co-captains Caroline Nonna (Pleasantville, NY) and Tim Godfrey (Gorham, ME) and Rorer were selected from the Bantam women's and men's rowing squads.
Valente posted a 14-7 singles record and a 14-4 doubles record for Head Coach Paul Assaiante, and Wohlford was 8-9 in singles and 10-7 in doubles. Nonna and Rorer helped the women's rowing team finish second overall at the New England Championships for Head Coach Erica Schwab. Godfrey was a member of the first-varsity eight that finished first in the New England Championships and second in the Champion International Collegiate Regatta this spring for Head Coach Steve Fluhr.
