Trinity's Sheppard Inducted
into Field Hockey Hall of Fame

Hartford, Conn., Jan. 30 - Trinity College associate athletic director and former field hockey, women’s lacrosse, and women’s basketball coach Robin Sheppard (Bridgeton, N.J.) was one of five 2002 inductees into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame. Sheppard, along with former University of Massachusetts and United States Team coach Pam Hixon, and legendary high school coaches Nancy Cole, Lillian Shelton, and Sandi Stober, was honored earlier this month at the annual NFHCA Awards Luncheon in Philadelphia, PA.

Sheppard coached field hockey at Trinity for 24 seasons, compiling a 240-67-13 overall record. She coached the Bantams to four National Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) championship titles, three Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship appearances, including an ECAC title in 1992, and four NCAA Division III Championship appearances, including two trips to the NCAA Final Four. Sheppard was named the NFHCA New England Coach of the Year in 1997. In women’s lacrosse, Sheppard coached for 25 seasons with a 213-68-5 record, three NIAC championship titles, seven ECAC Championship appearances, and three NCAA Division III Championship appearances. She also coached the Trinity women’s basketball team from 1975-1978.

Sheppard retired from coaching following the 1998-99 academic year to assume full-time duties as associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator in the Trinity athletic department. She has been instrumental in the institution of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program, which encourages and nurtures the overall development of the student-athlete during his or her intercollegiate athletic career. Sheppard was honored for her administrative skills in 1998 by Athletic Management magazine and as an International Sports Fellow by the Institute for International Sport in Rhode Island in 2001.

Sheppard, a native of Bridgeton, N.J., starred in field hockey and lacrosse at Trenton State (now The College of new Jersey). She is the daughter of the late Stanton and Peggy Sheppard.
