Several Trinity Swimmers Earn 
All-New England Honors

Hartford, Conn., May 28 - Nine members of the Trinity College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, which finished 11th and eighth, respectively, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships, were named to the 2002-03 All-New England Team. The top eight times in each individual event warranted a spot on the All-New England First Team, and the second best eight made the All-New England Honorable Mention list. Times in conference and/or New England championship meets were considered.

The Bantam women, coached by Kristen Noone, finished the 2002-03 dual meet season with a 6-4 record, while the men, also coached by Noone, finished their 2002-03 dual match regular season with a 2-8 mark.

Freshman Lindsey Jordan (Summit, N.J.) represented Trinity on the All-New England Women’s Swimming and Diving Team with the region’s seventh best time in the 50-yard backstroke. Jordan also appears on the All-New England Honorable Mention list for posting the 12th best time in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.04 was new Trinity record).

Classmate Amy Corvino (Florham Park, N.J.) was named as an All-New England Honorable Mention selection in three events. Corvino recorded the 10th best time in the region in the 100-yard individual medley (1:04.59), the 11th best time in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.90), and 13th best time in 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.32). Junior Jennifer Bartlett (Marblehead, Mass.) repeated as an All-New England Women’s Swimming and Diving Honorable Mention selection for recording the ninth best time in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.63 s), and also made the squad with the 15th best time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.82).

Junior Julia Kaye (Upper Saddle River, N.J.), a two-event selection to the All-New England Honorable Mention squad in the distance free events (1,650 and 500) the last two seasons, sophomore Kate Mortensen (Bedford, Mass.), an All-New England Honorable Mention in the 50-yard backstroke in 2001-02, and freshman Holly Thompson (Wall, N.J.) each made the All-New England Honorable Mention team this winter. Kaye swam the 15th best time in the 1,000-yard freestyle to earn the honor in that event for the first time, while Mortensen repeated her selection in the 50-yard backstroke (29.69), and Thompson joined Kaye with a top time in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:17.55 was 16th best in the region.

Senior co-captain Jesse Hammond (New London, Conn.) was named an All-New England Men’s Swimming and Diving Honorable Mention selection in three events. He recorded the 11th best time in the region in the 50-yard freestyle (21.88) and the 12th best time in the 50-yard butterfly (24.29) to make the squad in those events for the second straight year, and swam the 15th best time in the region in the 100-yard freestyle (47.99). The latter two performances were new Trinity records.

Freshman Christian Greer (Fairfield, Conn.) was named as an All-New England selection for recording the 10th best time in the region in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:10.49) and the 12th best time in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:03.53). Sophomore Matt DeRosa (Setauket, N.Y.) registered the 14th best time in New England in the 50-yard backstroke to earn regional honors for the first time.
