Trinity's Heath Chosen For
Several Softball and Academic Honors

Hartford, Conn., June 18 - Trinity College senior co-captain Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.), was selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District Softball First Team, the Verizon Academic All-American Softball Third Team, and the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Softball First Team. Heath was also named as one of just two New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Division III Scholar Athletes of the Year, and as Trinity's Female Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year (Susan E. Martin Award).

The Trinity softball squad, coached by Caitlin Luz (1st season), had an 8-21-1 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the NESCAC East Division, failing to qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament.

Heath, a two-time, second team All-NESCAC selection, started all 30 games at shortstop, and batted a league-best .444 (40-for-90) with team-highs of 17 runs, nine doubles, two triples, 15 RBI, and a league-high 15 stolen bases (in 17 attempts). Heath finished her career with 113 hits (new Trinity record) in 330 at-bats for a .342 batting average. She notched 52 runs, 21 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 48 RBI, and 146 total bases (new Trinity record), while earning all-league honors and league all-academic honors three times each.
