Trinity's Rhoten Named to National All-Freshman Hoops Team

Hartford, Conn., May 2 - Trinity College freshman forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) was named to the 2002-03 DIII News National All-Freshman Team. The Bantams, coached by Stan Ogrodnik, posted a 15-9 overall record and finished tied for third in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a 5-4 league mark. Trinity earned its third straight bid to the league championship tournament, falling to Wesleyan, 88-76, in the quarterfinals.

Freshman Tyler Rhoten

Rhoten, the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, appeared in all 24 games with 23 starts, playing forward and center for the undersized Bantams. He finished 2nd in the NESCAC in scoring (19.6 ppg) and finished among the league leaders in several categories. He was 5th in the league in rebounding with 8.1per game, 3rd in field goal shooting at 54.8 percent (205-374), and led the conference in free throw shooting at 83.6 percent (61-73). Rhoten also compiled 21 assists, 24 steals and nine blocked shots, while leading the Bantams in scoring 14 times and rebounding 16 times. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Skidmore College Invitational in December.
