Hartford, Conn., Mar. 20 - Trinity College freshman forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) was honored as the 2002-03 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year. The Bantams, coached by Stan Ogrodnik, posted a 15-9 overall record and finished tied for third in the NESCAC with a 5-4 league mark. Trinity earned its third straight bid to the league championship tournament, falling to Wesleyan, 88-76, in the quarterfinals.

Freshman Tyler Rhoten

Rhoten appeared in all 24 games with 23 starts, playing forward and center for the undersized Bantams. He finished 2nd in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in scoring (19.6 ppg) and finished among the league leaders in several categories. He was 5th in the league in rebounding with 8.1 per game, 3rd in field goal shooting at 54.8 percent (205-374), and led the conference in free throw shooting at 83.6 percent (61-73). Rhoten also compiled 21 assists, 24 steals and nine blocked shots, while leading the Bantams in scoring 14 times and rebounding 16 times. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Skidmore College Invitational in December.
