Baseball

Hartford, Conn., July 22 - Trinity baseball senior Robert Dolliver (Norwich, Conn.) was selected to the 2003 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Trinity baseball squad, coached by Bill Decker, finished the 2003 regular season with a 19-9 record and a 9-3 mark to finish atop the NESCAC East Division standings. The Bantams qualified for their third straight NESCAC Championship Tournament, defeating Amherst twice on the last day to earn their second league title and earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. In their fourth appearance in the tourney, Trinity won five out of six games to win the New York Regional Championship title, and advanced to its first NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Wisconsin. The Bantams lost a pair of hard-fought games in the World Series to close the season at 27-12 (new College record for wins).

Dolliver started all 39 games at catcher, first base, and DH for Trinity, batting .375 (57-for-152) with 40 runs, 10 doubles, 10 homers, 46 RBI, and 99 total bases. A two-time, Verizon Academic All-District selection as well, Dolliver finishes his career with 135 hits in 368 at-bats for a .367 batting average, 90 runs, 30 doubles, 15 home runs, 89 RBI, and 212 total bases for a .576 slugging percentage.

Softball

Hartford, Conn., July 22 - Trinity softball senior co-captain Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.) was selected to the 2003 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Trinity softball squad, coached by Caitlin Luz (1st season), had an 8-21-1 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the NESCAC East Division, failing to qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament.

Heath, a First Team All-NESCAC selection this spring, started all 30 games at shortstop and batted a league-best .444 (40-for-90) with team-highs of 17 runs, nine doubles, two triples, 15 RBI, and a league-high 15 stolen bases (in 17 attempts). She was selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District Team and the 2003 Verizon Academic All-American Third Team, and was named as Trinity’s Senior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Heath finished her career with 113 hits (new Trinity record) in 330 at-bats for a .342 batting average. She notched 52 runs, 21 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 48 RBI, and 146 total bases (new Trinity record), while earning all-league honors and NESCAC All-Academic honors three times each.

An alumna of Windsor High School, Heath graduated with a 3.76 GPA as a biology major at Trinity.

Men's Lacrosse

Hartford, Conn., July 22 - Trinity men’s lacrosse senior tri-captain Erik Mazmanian (Newton, Mass.) was selected to the 2003 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

Trinity, coached by Brian Silcott (3rd season), posted an 5-8 overall record and a 2-7 mark in the league. A NESCAC All-Academic selection in 2001 and 2002 as well, Mazmanian played in all 13 games (12 starts) at midfielder this season, recording five goals and 11 assists. He finishes his fine career with five goals and 21 assists for a total of 26 points.. An alumnus of Newton North High School, Mazmanian graduated with a 3.75 GPA at Trinity.

Men's Tennis

Hartford, Conn., July 22 - Trinity men’s tennis junior tri-captain Scott Levy (Waban, Mass.) was selected to the 2003 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Bantam men’s tennis team finished the 2002-03 season with a 9-4 record, and finished fifth in the NESCAC Championships. Levy, who was also a NESCAC All-Academic selection as a sophomore, posted a 7-6 dual record and a 10-8 mark overall this season playing at the No. 4 position. Levy, who owns a 34-24 career record in singles, also recorded a 12-4 doubles mark with partner Jimmie Ames (Sturbridge, Mass.) in 2002-03. A graduate of the Noble & Greenough School High School, Levy maintains a 3.61 GPA as an economics major at Trinity.

Track and Field

Hartford, Conn., July 22 - Trinity men’s outdoor track and field senior tri-captains Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) and Jim Emord (Bridgewater, Mass.), women’s outdoor track and field senior tri-captain Kate Klein (Huntington, Vt.), and sophomore Christina Kane (Springfield, Mass.) were each selected to the 2003 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Bantam men, coached by George Suitor, finished ninth in the 2002-03 NESCAC Championships, 10th in the New England Division III Championships, and 36th in the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Trinity women, also coached by Suitor, placed 11th in the 2002-03 NESCAC Championships and 18th in the New England Division III Championships this spring.

Bak finished his intercollegiate career as the premier runner in Trinity history. He holds the all-time Trinity record for the 5-mile cross country race (23:59), and the College’s all-time track and field records in the 800 meters (1:51.55), 1,000 meters (2:24.42), 1,500 meters (3:44.61), mile (4:01.45), 3,000 meters (8:19.48), and 5,000 meters (14:00.53). Bak won the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship title this fall and the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter championship titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03, respectively. He was named the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Runner of the Year for the 2002-03, and as this year’s top male collegiate athlete in Connecticut by the State’s Sportswriters Alliance. He has earned all-league, All-New England, and All-American honors cross country and track throughout his career.

Bak distinguished himself academically as well at Trinity, earning the College’s Junior Male Scholar Athlete Award in 2002 and its Senior Male Scholar Athlete Award this year. He has been a NESCAC All-Academic selection in six different seasons and a United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA) National All-Academic selection the last two years. Bak attended Suffield High School and graduated this spring with a 3.71 grade point average as an economics and political science major at Trinity.

Emord, an All-New England selection in the 2002-03 indoor and outdoor seasons, was a NESCAC All-Academic selection in cross country in 2001 and 2002. Emord has earned All-New England track honors throughout his career and was an All-American in cross country in 2001 and 2002. He holds the College’s all-time record in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:32.63. An alumnus of Bridgewater-Raynham High School, Emord graduated with a 3.45 GPA as a mathematics major at Trinity.

Kane, an All-NESCAC selection and an indoor and outdoor All-New England selection in track this season, qualified for Nationals in both seasons as well. She posted top times of 2:16.96 in the 800 meters, 3:00.83 in the 1,000 meters, and 4:36.49 in the 1,500 meters this season. A graduate of Cathedral High School, Kane maintains a 3.67 GPA at Trinity.

Klein, an All-New England selection as a junior and a sophomore, and the College’s Junior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2001-02, Klein posted top times of 2:19.48 in the 800 meters, 3:11.76 in the 1,000 meters, and 4:58.47 in the 1,500 meters this season. She was a NESCAC All-Academic selection for the fall seasons in 2000 and 2001 in cross country, the winter 2001-02 indoor track season, and the spring 2001 outdoor track season. An alumna of Mount Mansfield High School, Klein and graduated with a 3.61 GPA as an engineering major at Trinity.

Women's Rowing

Hartford, Conn., July 22 - Trinity women’s rowing junior Carolyn Walker (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was selected to the 2003 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

The Bantam women’s varsity eight recorded a 5-4 record, before winning its first New England Championship title which helped them qualify as a wild card for the program’s first NCAA Division III Championship. After finishing eighth in the ECAC National Invitational Regatta, Trinity finished fifth in the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis.

Walker, a member of Trinity’s first varsity eight throughout the season, maintains a 3.54 G.P.A. as a psychology major at Trinity.
