Winter Athletes Earn NESCAC All-Academic Honors |

Hartford, Conn., Apr. 9 - Trinity College women’s ice hockey junior tri-captain Jillian Nelsen (Albany, N.Y.) was named to the 2002-03 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.
The Bantam women’s ice hockey squad, coached by Andy McPhee (1st season), posted a 4-12-2 record and finished ninth in the NESCAC with a 2-12-2 league mark. Nelsen played in all 18 games at forward this season, tallying one assist. A graduate of Colonie Central High School, Nelsen maintains a 3.63 GPA as a history major at Trinity.
Hartford, Conn., Apr. 9 - Trinity College men’s ice hockey junior Dan Gyllstrom (Hudson, Mass.) was named to the 2002-03 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete honored is a starter or key reserve on an officially sponsored varsity sport with a grade point average of at least 3.35.
The Bantam men’s ice hockey squad, coached by John Dunham (29th season), posted a 19-6-2 record and finished second in the NESCAC with a 15-3-1 mark. Trinity won two, 3-2, overtime games and a 4-2 game at Middlebury to capture its first NESCAC Championship title. The Bantams received its first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, falling at Norwich, 5-4, in the quarterfinals.
Gyllstrom played in 23 games at forward this season, tallying nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. A NESCAC All-Academic selection last season as well, Gyllstrom is a graduate of Acton-Boxborough High School. He and maintains a 3.86 GPA at Trinity.
Hartford, Conn., Apr. 9 - Trinity men’s squash sophomore Regardt Schonborn (Bloemfontein, South Africa) was selected to the 2002-03 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.
The Bantam men’s squash team, coached by Paul Assaiante (9th season) finished the 2002-03 season with a 19-0 record (tied College record). Trinity won its fifth consecutive College Squash Association (CSA) Men’s Team Championship (PotterTrophy) and extended its winning streak to 90 straight matches dating back to 1998.
Schonborn posted a perfect 12-0 record this season playing primarily at the No. 5 position. He holds a flawless, 20-0 career mark. A graduate of the Grey College in South Africa, Schonborn maintains a 3.71 grade-point average at Trinity.

Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.
The Bantam women’s squash team, coached by Wendy Bartlett (19th season) finished the 2002-03 season with a best ever, 14-0 record. Trinity won its second consecutive College Squash Association (CSA) Women’s Team Championship (Howe Cup) and extended its winning streak to 26 straight matches dating back to 2001.
Helal posted a 14-2 record this season playing at the No. 1 position, and won both the mid-season Constable Tournament title and the CSA Individual Championship title for the second straight year. Also a NESCAC All-Academic selection and a three-time All-American, Helal holds a 49-5 career mark. A graduate of the Phillips School in England, Helal maintains a 3.75 grade-point average as a French and German major at Trinity.
Saunders posted a 9-2 record this season playing primarily at the No. 3 position. A three-time All-American as well, Saunders holds a 36-13 career mark. She maintains a 3.40 grade-point average at Trinity.
Wrestling (Also National Academic Honors)
Hartford, Conn., Apr. 9 - Trinity wrestling senior Eric Egolf (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior co-captain Michael Doros (East Hartford, Conn.) were each selected to the 2002-03 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average. Doros, Egolf, and sophomore Matt Webster (Foxboro, Mass.) were each also selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NCWA) 2002-03 Scholar All-American Team for posting a 3.20 grade point average or better this season. Trinity finished the season with the best g.p.a. as a team in New England and the third best in the nation at 3.26.
The Bantam wrestling team, coached by Sebby Amato (17th season) finished the 2002-03 season with a best-ever 23-3 record. Trinity won its first New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Duals Championship title, and finished second in the NECCWA Overall Championships. The Bantams also competed in the NCAA Division III National Championships, placing 36th overall.
Egolf posted a 22-12 record with three pins, competing primarily in the 149-pound weight class. Egolf, who finished his outstanding career with a 57-33 mark and 12 pins, earned All-New England honors this season with a fourth place finish in the NECCWA Championship Tournament. Egolf maintains a 3.43 grade-point average as a computer science major at Trinity.
Doros posted a 27-4 record (2nd most wins on the team) with three pins, competing primarily in the 184-pound weight class. Doros, who has a 66-19 mark and 10 pins in his career, earned All-New England honors for the third consecutive season with a second place finish in the 2002-03 NECCWA Championship Tournament. A graduate of East Hartford High School, Doros maintains a 3.65 grade-point average as a computer engineering major at Trinity.
Webster posted a 20-6 record with a team-high 12 pins, competing primarily in the 197-pound weight class. Webster, who has a 37-17 mark and 21 pins in his career, earned All-New England honors for the second consecutive season with a fourth place finish in the 2002-03 NECCWA Championship Tournament. A graduate of Foxboro High School, Webster majors in engineering at Trinity.
Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving
Hartford, Conn., Apr. 9 - Trinity College men’s swimming and diving senior Maurice Lee (Wayne, Pa.), women’s swimming and diving junior co-captain Lauren Albrecht (East Lyme, Conn.) and women’s diving junior captain Meghan Emilio (Haverhill, Mass.) were each selected to the 2002-03 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.
The Trinity men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads, both coached by Kristen Noone (3rd season) finished 11th and eighth, respectively, in NESCAC Championships. The Bantam men were 2-8 in dual meets, while the women were 6-4.
Lee competed primarily in the freestyle, breaststroke and medley events for the Bantams. He swam the team’s top time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.13), and the second-best time on the team in the 500-yard free (5:03.98), the 1,000-yard free (18:04.77), the 1,650-yard free (18:04.77), the 50-yard breaststroke (31.99), and the 200-yard IM (2:14.63). Lee also swam a leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that posted a team-best time of 7:22.52, the 200-yard medley relay that swam a team-best time of 1:43.82, and the 400-yard medley relay squad that recorded a team-best time of 3:52.27. His career-best times of 10:36.44 in the 1,000-yard free and 17:59.49 in the 1,650-yard free are both the sixth best in College history.
A graduate of Radnor High School, Lee maintains a 3.46 grade-point average in biology at Trinity. He is the son of Linda and Maurice Lee.
Albrecht competed primarily in the backstroke and individual medley events for the Bantams. She swam the team’s fourth-best times in the 50-yard backstroke (31.69 was also a career best), the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.84), and the 200-yard backstroke (2:29.16). A graduate of East Lyme High School, Albrecht maintains a 3.64 grade-point average in anthropology at Trinity. She is the daughter of Dolores and Richard Albrecht.
Emilio served as the captain of a core of seven Bantams divers this season, recording career-best scores of 201.35 in the one-meter and 189.7 off the three-meter board. A graduate of Haverhill High School, Emilio maintains a 3.69 grade-point average in computer science at Trinity. She is the daughter of Mary and Alfred Emilio.
