Japanese Leader in Global Education Receives Honorary Degree at Trinity College

  Dr. Kenji Tanaka

Dr. Kenji Tanaka, the founder of Japan’s Technos College, was awarded an honorary degree in a specially designated ceremony in the Trinity College Chapel on May 5. Tanaka has been a pioneer in the field of global education and a leader throughout his career. In 1959, his family founded the Tokyo Television Advanced Technology School, today Technos College, to meet the needs of students and industry in a rapidly changing society. Ever mindful of the increasing interdependence of the global community, Tanaka has worked throughout his professional life to promote international understanding through educational opportunities.

In 1990 he established the Tanaka Memorial Foundation in memory of his father, Juichi Tanaka, the founder of Meijo University in Nagoya, Japan. The Foundation promotes collaborations between Japan and other nations through cultural exchange programs. The holder of three degrees from Keio University in Tokyo, Dr. Tanaka has received numerous honorary degrees from institutions of higher education around the world. In 1991, the government of France awarded him La Médaille de la Jeunesse et des Sports and in 1993, President Bill Clinton honored him as a Distinguished Educator. Numerous international foundations and associations benefit from Dr. Tanaka’s time and expertise.
