Fred Alford
Dean of Students
With the summer upon
us, it seems an appropriate time to reflect on the mission of an
academic institution such as this one. The school year is
finished, Trinity has graduated another class—the 179th in its
remarkable history. Following Commencement exercises on the main
quad, 470 young men and women put behind them the nurturing
comfort of their College years in order to embark on the journey
of their lives. As they make their way in the world as engaged
citizens, each is fully aware of the rights and responsibilities
that must be confronted and, ultimately, embraced. Commencement is
indeed a proud day for Trinity College.
We at Trinity are confident that our students receive a deeply
rooted, broad-based liberal arts education that will last a
lifetime. Whether they go on to graduate school or into the work
force, Trinity alumni make a difference in the world. The Class of
2005 distinguished itself in all manner of accomplishment, from
academic excellence to a demonstrated commitment to community
service. And while their achievements are no doubt noteworthy, the
members of this year’s graduating class are among a long line of
Trinity students who have understood that they possess the tools
and talents to make the world a better place—it is a
responsibility that we hope they take seriously.

Joan Murphy
Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students
"I have a passion for
reading—starting in first grade, I would stay up late into the
night, reading books by flashlight under the covers or in my
closet fort. Now, with book lights, it is no longer necessary
to head for the closet."
