Landmark Study Gets Trinity Noticed
More than 500 newspapers in 40 countries, scores of radio and television stations, and innumerable blogs have been talking about the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) that was released March 9 by Trinity’s Program on Public Values. The survey’s results provide a portrait of how contemporary Americans identify themselves religiously. Read more.

Trinity's Zayde Antrim Featured on PBS
Zayde Gordon Antrim, assistant professor of history and international studies at Trinity, is featured in a new PBS documentary, Jerusalem: Center of the World. Antrim was interviewed extensively on Trinity’s campus, and also served as a consultant for the script. Tune in to the documentary’s premiere on Wednesday, April 1 from 9-11 p.m. Check your local listings.
 

Trinity Ranks High for Study Abroad Programs
In a recent article in U.S. News and World Report, Trinity was listed among the top 50 higher education institutions whose students participate in study abroad programs. In 2007, 56 percent of Trinity’s undergraduate students took courses in other countries. Read more about the survey’s results.

 

Faculty and Staff Giving Supports Students
Responding to economic hardships faced by students and their families, faculty and staff are funding two new scholarships: a Faculty Scholarship Fund for students experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties, and a Community Scholarship Fund for students from Connecticut. Five individuals (at left) are coordinating the effort with their colleagues.
 

International Hip-Hop Festival Returns
April 3 and 4 mark the fourth year of Trinity’s International Hip-Hop Festival, the first and largest international hip-hop festival in the U.S. The weekend features performances by up-and-coming artists, lectures, workshops, film screenings and more. The festival is free, but attendees must register. Find out more.  

Trinity Draws Experts on Regionalism
Trinity’s Center for Urban and Global Studies will host an April 16 symposium that addresses the key issues concerning regional development and cooperation in Connecticut. This timely topic will be explored during two panel discussions led by prominent regionalism experts and scholars. Read a detailed description and schedule of the symposium’s events.

Robotics Contest on April 4 and 5 The 16th annual Trinity College Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest is expected to draw more than 100 teams of all ages from across the globe. This year’s competition features two events: the RoboWaiter, and the classic House on Fire contest. Watch the 2008 video trailer, and see this year’s schedule.

Students Launch Sustainability Projects
From an electronic ride board to outdoor clothes lines, Trinity students have come up with innovative ways to make Trinity a more environmentally friendly campus. As a result, Trinity has awarded three mini-grants to help get their projects up and running.

Inaugural Reitemeyer Associate Professorship Lecture on April 7
Kevin J. McMahon, the John R. Reitemeyer Associate Professor of Political Science and chair of political science at Trinity College, will deliver his inaugural lecture on April 7. “Nixon’s Court: The Silent Majority and the Conservative Counterrevolution That Was,” will examine how President Richard Nixon’s judicial policy succeeded in bringing a conservative tilt to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Athletics News
Five of Trinity’s spring teams are currently ranked among the best in the nation: baseball, women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, golf, and women’s rowing. The men’s track and field relay team finished fifth in the nation at the Division III national championships. Christine Mwatutura ‘09 was one of just two NCAA Division III field hockey players and the only NESCAC athlete to be awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for the fall of 2008.

The redesigned Alumni Relations site introduces Experience, an online program linking alumni to an international database of job leads for all career levels. Also look for links to our Facebook and LinkedIn networks, as well as the Bantam Alumni Network. Check out the new site.
