The 2003 Trinity College Women’s Cross Country Team. |
The Trinity College women’s cross country
team finished second in a field of 24 teams at the NCAA Division III
National Championships at Hanover College in Indiana.
Senior tri-captain Elizabeth Brown
(Belmont, Massachusetts) finished 18th overall to lead the team to a
best-ever second place finish in the November 21 meet. Trinity, which
came into the race ranked third in New England and fourth nationally,
was bested only by Middlebury College – which was crowned the Division
III national champion.
In unseasonably warm conditions on
Hanover’s on-campus, 6,000-meter course, Brown and fellow senior
tri-captains Karen Roy (Ashford, Connecticut) and Kristina DePeau
(Stafford, Connecticut) finished 18th, 43rd, and 61st, respectively,
to help Trinity hold off Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Brown’s and Roy’s
top-25 finishes earned each of them All-American honors. Brown
finished with a time of 22:31.5 and Roy crossed the finish line at
23:10.8 to repeat as an All-American honoree for Trinity.
Junior Christina Kane (Springfield,
Massachusetts) finished immediately behind DePeau in 62nd place for
the Bantams, followed by sophomore Jackie Kupper (Wethersfield,
Connecticut) in 98th, senior Hilary Evans (West Suffield, Connecticut)
in 127th, and freshman Kristina Miner (Suffield, Connecticut) in 160th
place.
At the NCAA banquet, Trinity Men’s and
Women’s Cross Country Head Coach George Suitor was honored as the New
England Regional Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
