Trinity's Ogrodnik To
Be Inducted Into New England Basketball Hall of Fame
Trinity College men’s basketball coach Stan
Ogrodnik was recently inducted into the New England Basketball
Hall of Fame. Ogrodnik, along with an impressive group that includes
NBA stars Travis Best, Caron Butler, and Mike Gminski, NBA coach Lenny
Wilkens, and Lousville head basketball coach Rick Pitino, was honored
at the Ryan Center on the campus of the University of Rhode Island on
Friday, Sept. 19.
Ogrodnik has coached basketball at Trinity for 22 seasons, compiling a
367-156 overall record. He coached the Bantams to four Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England
Championship titles, a fifth ECAC Finals appearance, and four NCAA
Division III Championship Tournaments. The Bantams advanced to the
NCAA Division III Elite Eight in 1998-99 and to the NCAA Division III
Final Four in 1994-95.
Ogrodnik joined the Trinity staff as an assistant in 1979 after nine
very successful years as the head coach of East Catholic High School
in Manchester, Conn., where he guided Eagle teams to a 162-49 record,
two Class L state championships, three state runners-up, and five
conference championships. He is also a physical education instructor
and the director of special projects in the Trinity athletic
department. Ogrodnik’s diversified career has included coaching and
speaking both in the United States and abroad. He served as an
assistant with the British National Team in the 1988 Olympic Games.
