J. Russell Fugett came to Trinity college from Silver Spring,
Maryland after having graduated from Georgetown Prep in 1997.
Russell immediately got involved with Imani. He served as
Secretary and later as Co-President during his Freshmen year. He
then went on to become the Vice-President of the Multi-Cultural
Affairs Council of the SGA during his Sophomore year. During his
Junior and Senior year, Russell served as SGA President.
During his four years Russell also served as a PRIDE Leader and
First Year Mentor. He also had a jazz show and broadcast
basketball games for WRTC, and wrote regular opinion pieces for
the Tripod before serving as Copy Editor during his final
semester.
Russell graduated in 2001 with a degree in Political Science. He
then moved to Boston where he participated in the United Leaders
Institute for Political Service at Harvard. After his summer
fellowship, Russell worked for Common Cause, Massachusetts, as the
Assistant Coordinator of lobbying and volunteers.
Russell now resides back home in Silver Spring, MD and works at
the Best Friends Foundation in Washington, DC. Best Friends is a
Youth Development Foundation that teaches an abstinence based
curriculum (abstinence from sex, drugs, alcohol, and violence) to
students in Public Schools nation wide. Russell is the Best Men
National and Metropolitan Program Assistant.
