In 1998, in the midst of the $100-million Trinity College Campaign
and under the leadership of former President Evan Dobelle, the Trinity
College community took up the challenge to create a strategic
plan to guide the College through its next 20 years. After 18 months of discussions and meetings, the College's
Board of Trustees voted to accept the new Strategic
Plan which also contains a Campus
Master Plan for the renewal and expansion of campus facilities.
The Trinity College Campaign achieved its fundraising goal
of $100 million ahead of its target date of June 30, 1998
through the generosity of many donors — alumni, parents
and friends, and corporations and foundations. However, it
was clear that funding priorities had changed or expanded
and that additional funds were needed to implement the first
phase of the Strategic Plan. So, in 1998, fundraising efforts
were extended for another three years with a commitment from
the Development Office to raise an additional $75 million.
By early February 2001 the $75-million goal had been reached
through the exceptional generosity of Trinity's alumni and
friends.
The priorities targeted for new funding have included the new Admissions
and Career Services Center, the Library
and Information Technology Center, on-campus cultural
houses, scholarships, academic programs and the Learning
Corridor/Neighborhood
collaborations. Among academic programs, funding efforts focused
on the Greenberg
Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life, the new Human
Rights program, the expanded Jewish
Studies Program, the Center
for Collaborative Teaching and Research and the experimental Tutorial
College, to name a few.
Trinity will maintain its fundraising momentum and continue
its commitment to raise in excess of $25 million a year. Fundraising
will remain focused on the priorities of the Strategic Plan
and its Campus Master Plan. An additional focus will be increasing
the size of Trinity's endowment.
