Tailgating Policy for Athletic Events at Trinity College

Homecoming Weekend (Saturday, November 10th)

Connecticut law imposes criminal penalties upon those who allow minors to consume alcohol on private property and upon those who fail to stop minors from doing so.  It is the College's hope that enforcement of this law will not result in the termination of certain traditional Trinity events, including tailgating prior to football games.  To that end, the College requests the active cooperation of all alumni in eliminating any underage alcohol consumption at on-campus events.

Parking spots for tailgating will be available to Trinity alumni/friends and fans from the opposing team on a first-come, first-served basis on game day. You must be 21 or older to park in a Tailgating lot The College will not reserve spaces prior to game day, except for those who require handicapped parking. (Please call the Alumni Office if you require a handicapped space.) Tailgating will only be permitted in specified tailgating areas (Hansen lot and the Vernon St./Broad St. lot) and fans are requested to occupy no more than one space per vehicle. Kegs, large vehicles (such as RVs, buses, rental trucks, common source beer etc.) and large tents are prohibited. The amount of alcohol brought in must be proportionate to the number of people in the party.

Any person consuming alcohol on College property must be at least 21 years of age and may not serve alcohol to minors. Security will patrol the tailgating areas to check for violations of the policy. Any fan in possession of alcohol in the tailgating areas may be asked to show valid identification/proof of age. Cars and trunks will be subject to visual inspection by campus security officers upon entering the tailgating areas.

No alcohol or open containers may be brought into Jessee/Miller Field, including the fenced-off area surrounding the football field, the stands and the sidelines of the game. The tailgating areas will open at 8:00 a.m. on game day with tailgating to start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. We ask you to please clean up any garbage and recycling at 2:00 p.m.

All spectators should exhibit good sportsmanship in accordance with NESCAC and NCAA policy. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial, or sexist comments, or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition.
