Paloma Gutierrez
Pound Ridge, NY
High School: Fox Lane High School
Major: International Studies concentrating on Latin America and Hispanic Studies (double major)
Favorite Class Taken at Trinity: The Politics of Human Rights in Latin America. This class was extremely interesting because we saw how politics have affected human rights in Latin America in many different instances and the problems the different countries have faced ever since.
Why I chose Trinity: Excellent reputation and programs, small class sizes, a wealth of study abroad opportunities, great campus feel, and the location and opportunities of being in the state capitol.
Extracurricular Activities: Trinity College Women’s Rugby Football Club, Habitat for Humanity, Tour Guide, Student Caller, Study Abroad - PRESHCO in Cordoba Spain, and Trinity in Santiago, Chile.
Professional Goals/ Career Plans: I plan to work in human rights, immigration or urban issues. I have done internships for the Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission in Hartford and for Higher Achievement (a year round academic program to help disadvantaged students reach their potential by attending top high schools in order to gain acceptance to college) in Washington D.C., and I have enjoyed both experiences. Hopefully I can continue my work in those fields.
