Alicia Diaz
New York, NY
High School: La Guardia High School for Performing Arts
Major: International Studies with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean
Minor: While I do not have a minor I find that the interdisciplinary approach in the International Studies major has allowed me to take different classes in areas of study such as economics, political science and history. So I may as well have a minor in those departments as well.
Favorite class taken at Trinity: My favorite class at Trinity was Human Rights in a Global Age where we studied the process of globalization and the impact it has had on human rights issues.
Why I chose Trinity: I chose Trinity primarily because of its location in a capital city. Coming from New York I needed to have accessible transportation and a community life both on and off campus. I found that at Trinity the city of Hartford is used as a learning tool and that’s something I really value. I was also attracted to the flexible curriculum and the fact that students can receive a liberal arts education meanwhile gaining professional experience through the many internship opportunities available.
Extracurricular Activities: I am involved in many different aspects of campus. I am a Senior Resident Assist in a first year hall as well as President of La Voz Latina, one of our multicultural organizations here on campus. I’ve been involved in many different community service projects including Habitat for Humanity and volunteering at a local soup kitchen. I’ve also completed an internship at the mayor’s office and plan to intern at a law firm this upcoming semester. Lastly, I am a Posse Scholar, one of 10 select students in my graduating class.
Professional Goals/ Career Plans: When I graduate I hope to get an amazing job that will lead me into my dream career, whatever that may be. I am interested in education, journalism and possibly law.
