NCAA Division III Cross Country Report
TRINITY’S BAK CAPTURES NCAA DIVISION III
MEN’S X-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

Bantam Women Finish 13th Behind Roy and Klein

  Trinity College men’s cross country
senior co-captain Ryan Bak
Northfield, Minn .- Trinity College men’s cross country senior co-captain Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) won the 8,000-meter race with a course-record time of 25:01 to capture NCAA Division III National Men’s Cross Championship title at St. Olaf College this afternoon. Bantam junior Karen Roy (Ashford, Conn.) finished 22nd with a time of 22:26.1 over 6,000 meters, and senior co-captain Kate Klein (Huntington, Vt.) came in 28th at 22:37.2 to place 28th, leading the Trinity women to a 13th-place finish in the Women’s Cross Championship at St. Olaf.

Bak broke the course record at St. Olaf by 20 seconds and finished ahead of the second place runner by seven full seconds to capture the title and earn All-American honors for the second straight season.  He pulled ahead of the pack at the two-mile mark and maintained a 70-yard lead in front of second-place Ryan Kleimenhagen, of Wisc.-Platteville, for the remainder of the race.  Classmate and fellow Trinity senior co-captain Jim Emord (Bridgewater, Mass.) finished the race in 25:31 to finish 13th overall and receive All-American honors for the second year in a row as well.

The Bantam women’s team, ranked No. 15 in the nation, finished fifth with 307 points, which was just one behind 12th-place Haverford and two behind 11th place College of New Jersey.  Trinity finished ahead of Bowdoin and St. Olaf, both of whom were ranked higher than the Bantams in the national rankings. Roy and Klein, who actually finished two places better than in the New England Regional Championships last weekend, were both named All-Americans for their outstanding performances.

Bantam sophomore Christina Kane (Springfield, Mass.) finished 67th at 23:32.5, while junior Liz Brown (Belmont, Mass.) came in 93rd at 23:47.1, and senior co-captain Leeann Rheaume (Pittsfield, Mass.) closed out her career with a 97th-place finish in 23:49.2
