In honor of International Human Rights Day, the
Trinity College Human Rights Program and Students to Unite Science and
Humanitarian Interests (SUSHI) will sponsor the second annual Student
Human Rights Fair, Monday, December 8.
Beginning at 2 p.m., in Mather Hall,
Terrace Room B, students and faculty will observe a variety of human
rights issues around the world such as AIDS in Asia, arms control,
food and water access and hunger/ homelessness concerns. The campus
community will celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
At 7:00 p.m., students will meet, on the
Cave patio, outside Mather Hall, Terrace Room B, for a candlelight
vigil to re-cap the day’s events and observe a moment of silence
for those whose human rights have been violated.
To end the day’s events, a public dialogue
at 7:30 p.m., in Mather Hall, Terrace Room B, will feature a
discussion with two women from Iraq: “The Challenge of
Conversation - The Courage to Listen, with Amal Al-Khedairy,
founder and director of Al-Beit Al-Iraqi, an arts and cultural center
in Baghdad, and Nermin Al-Mufti, an internationally recognized Iraqi
journalist. |
