Fighting for Latino Rights with the Young Lords
Former member of the Young Lords Party, Miguel Melendez, to Speak at Trinity College

What:  

Miguel Melendez, veteran 60s activist, author, and former member of the Young Lords Party (the Puerto Rican counterpart to the Black Panthers) will speak at Trinity College about his experience as an activist and member of the organization in the 1960s.

     
When:   Thursday, April 15th
6:30 p.m. – Reception/Refreshments and screening of 1969 footage of the Puerto Rican Community in Hartford
7:30 p.m. – Speaker Miguel Melendez
     
Where:  

Hamlin Hall on the Trinity College campus.

     
Background:   Melendez has recently published a book, We Took the Streets: Fighting for Latino Rights with the Young Lords. He has also received a Charles H. Revson Fellowship on the Future of the City of New York at Columbia University.

The public is invited to this free event, which is co-sponsored by the Hartford Studies Project and Trinity College’s Office of Community and Institutional Relations, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Austin Arts Center, and the Office of Student Activities and Campus Centers.
