Background: |
|
Compulsive eating has just started to be recognized as a serious
health concern, yet it is almost invisible compared to anorexia or
bulimia. In 2001, Lisa Currie was diagnosed with compulsive eating
disorder. Not until Currie began therapy for depression did she
realize it wasn't an issue of willpower. It was a compulsive
eating disorder, and she had been unknowingly caught in its web
for nearly two decades.
Currie will describe her experience by sharing stories from her
own life. She will talk about what can contribute to the
development of compulsive eating, the role poor body image plays,
and how to move towards recovery. Currie will also bring her own
personal brand of enthusiasm, along with years of professional
health education experience, and a wealth of personal experience
dealing with various health issues. In addition, Currie shares
suggestions and resources on how to prevent an eating disorder and
how to help a friend who is struggling with this disorder.
Currie received her B.A. from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire,
her M.S. in Education from University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and
additional coursework in the area of addictions at The University
of Scranton.
