Nature and Value:
Noted Philosophy Professor Speaks at Trinity College

Coverage Opportunity

What:

Kenneth Winkler, professor of philosophy will present “Nature and Value” a lecture at Trinity College. A recurring theme that philosophers have, according to Winkler, is the question of "realism": do our concepts reflect the nature of things themselves, or do they embody our own presuppositions and concerns?

When:

Thursday, April 1, 2004, 4:15p.m.

Where:

Terrace Room B Mather Hall, Trinity College.

Background:   Winkler teaches courses in early modern philosophy, logic, philosophy of religion, and environmental philosophy, and seminars in metaphysics, epistemology, and the history of philosophy. His main research interest is the history of philosophy in the seventeenth- and eighteenth centuries. He has published a book on Berkeley and articles on Descartes, Locke, and Hume, all of whom he regularly teaches in “Early Modern Philosophy” philosophy course. Winkler is also one of the editors of the journal Hume Studies, and is at work on a book about competing views of personal identity in 18-century Britain.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information call (860) 297-2472.
