Fund for UNICEF in ‘97. Working with the U.S. Fund, he strives to
promote the survival, protection, and development of all children
through fundraising, advocacy, and public awareness campaigns. The
U.S. Fund for UNICEF brings greater awareness of children's needs
around the world to the American public, and describes UNICEF's
response to the many challenges children face in their healthy
development.
Before assuming this position, Lyons served
as chief of staff to the Executive Director of UNICEF, Carol
Bellamy. Prior to that, as a UNICEF Senior Program Funding
Officer, from 1992-95, he was responsible for UNICEF's overall
relationship with the governments and national committees of the
United States, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland.
From 1988-1991, Lyons was a UNICEF Program Officer for Information
and Social Communications in Mozambique.
UNICEF's work to fight HIV and
AIDS is an indispensable part of creating more stability, more
prosperity, less violence, and more peace in the world. UNICEF
believes that decisive steps are necessary to effectively take on
the HIV/AIDS crisis.
